short jaunt  Sucess!

Eighty minute ascent via the Long Trail route from the north. Seventy minute descent. The summit was socked in with fog so no views but there was beautiful rime ice on the plants and not (fortunately) on the trail. I had enough left in my tank to do Marcy the next morning.

Great day in Vermont  Sucess!

After breakfast with a view of the mountain, we headed up the Long Trail. With perfectly clear skies, we had spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, as well as Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks, with Whiteface standing out, to the west. We descended the steep Profanity Trail back to the Long Trail. HP41

Successful, Despite Weather  Sucess!

On what was supposed to be a great weather day, it had rained the entire previous night and the thick fog and cold temperatures lingered well into the morning. I took the toll road to the upper visitor center and then hiked/ran from there. I quickly went over to the Chin en route to the nearby neighboring CoHP ("Adam's Apple"), and then headed back. But then I realized I still needed my summit photos so I headed back to the Chin again. This time, the summit steward ("Graham") was there, shortly after arriving from nearby Taft Lodge. We talked for a few minutes and he helped with my summit photo. This was my 45th State Highpoint.

HP# 11  Sucess!

Hiked up the west side from UnderHill campground, the name of the trail already escapes me and I just got home!! It's the trail that was 50 percent exposed the entire climb, was a little peaved at the amount of people on the summit but the auto road brings them up in droves. All and all it was a nice 8.6 round trip if you count the mile each way from Underhill.

5th SHP, first for my son  Sucess!

Hiked the Long Trail southbound from rte 108 to the Chin (some rock scrambling/climbing towards the peak) then followed the summit ridge trail to the gondola trail-a very steep trail with a lot of rock scrambling and then took the gondola down to the base and walked half a mile back to the car. Cloudy but dry day! This was my first Vermont hike and I loved the green mountains everywhere!! My son enjoyed the arctic tundra at the summit and the rock climbing.

no bugs  Sucess!

Did a solo using the LT from the East side. Met a group of 10 French Canadian hotties on the way up. Perfect day. No bugs. Quick trip to the top, about 1.5 hours.

Hiking in a creek  Sucess!

My trio summited from Smuggler's Notch during a NASTY, day-long downpour. The trails were creeks, and I think my legs may have been drier in some swimming pools! Honestly, I wouldn't change it though, as it made the summit a far greater accomplishment.
It was really strange to get to the top and find a 'ranger' standing there in the wind and rain seemingly perfectly at peace - love it!

State HP#12  Sucess!

Reached the summit on the Saturday of the first weekend in December with temperatures in the 30's and a clear, sunny sky. Can't beat it! Good amount of ice and a little snow, but overall we were met with pretty tough to beat conditions for December.

Beautiful Sunrise  Sucess!

Left late in the afternoon from the Underhill State Park and hiked up the Sunset Ridge Trail. Probably my 25th time up here, the sunset did not disappoint- amazing view. Very ice trail, but little snow. Hung out at the top for a while, came down by 9:00 by moonlight - simply beautiful.

Mansfield Traverse

Very cold morning, sun came over the ridge as I came out onto the open Sunset Ridge. Enjoyed views up to the main ridge, had summit to myself, very cold strong winds. Started running into tourists along the ridge, visited Forehead and descended via the very steep but scenic Maple Ridge Trail. Great day!

Bunch of times  Sucess!

In all seasons. Not the most aesthetic Vermont peak, but has the most alpine.
