Cheated a little. Took the gondola up to the lodge. Hiked from there, meeting up with the long trail to the summit. Weather was awful -- zero visibility and occaisional drizzle. Also hiked profanity. I'll need to return when the wheather is a little more cooperative.

Route Climbed: Long Trail from Toll Road Date Climbed: July 11, 2002  Sucess!

For our next adventure, my parents and I drove over to Stowe, Vermont to drive and hike to the highest point in Vermont. Once we got to the parking area at 3,800 feet we were rudely greeted by 30 mph winds. At first we were not sure if we wanted to make the 1.5 mile, 700 vertical foot climb. However, after seeing that other hikers were going and not being blown off the mountain, we decided to go for it. We had to improvise with towels and sweaters over our heads in order to protect ourselves from the wind.

Most of this delightful hike is above treeline, affording excellent views.

We continued onward and upward. Once we got close to the summit, the sun came out and the winds died down some. We were proud to have attained the hi-point of Vermont in spite of the elements on a very windy day.

Route Climbed: Stowe to Taft Lodge to Profanity Trail Date Climbed: February 17, 2003  Sucess!

Scott and I left the parking lot at the end of the closed road in Stowe at about 5:45 am with the temperature at –5 degrees F. Had a great hike to Taft lodge where it had warmed up to +10F. Hiking through the snow covered spruce trees was like being in a winter wonderland! Climbed Profanity trail to the summit where there were high winds and a much colder temperature. Tremendous views and only saw one other climber on the way down. Darryl

Route Climbed: Sunset Date Climbed: July 1995  Sucess!

Excellent hike. Dog hated it though. Crystals in the rock tore off the pads on his feet (paws). I felt terrible that this happened. I had to carry him down. Going up was great. Great view as well.
