Route Climbed: Johns Brook Trail Date Climbed: October 6,2004  Sucess!

After a long and grueling 9 mile hike to the summit, it was well worth the effort. It was a very windy and chilly day on the mountain. Awesome view!!!

Route Climbed: Via land bridge from Grey Date Climbed: 8-25-96 and 3-99  Sucess!

Hiked this more then once, but I always seemed to have great views. The winter climb was the best. I have done it mostly from Grey, over the land bridge.

Great hike up, bummer view - it was completely overcast and I couldn't see more than 50 ft out.

Route Climbed: Van Hoevenberg Trail from ADK Loj Date Climbed: August 13, 2003  Sucess!

Stayed at the Loj with the wife and we did a day trip up Marcy. The trail was mostly a horrendous quagmire until we reached the treeline due to rain in the days leading up to our climb. Quite a few snakes slithering across the trail. Nice weather for the climb though - sunny with great visibility. Spent some time at Indian Falls on the way up. Always nice to dip feet/head in the water on hot days. Fended off attacking ocelots around 4000 feet. Kidding. There were quite a few people on the summit; the weather was clear and views were great. (Great cell phone reception up there, by the way.) The way down felt long due to the ever-present mudpits. A great hike though, and we got back in time for dinner. My fifth time up.

Next time I am definitely doing Skylight and/or Haystack while I'm up there.

Staying at the Loj was very nice (great food) but I prefer tents at Marcy Dam or further out.

Route Climbed: Van Hovenburg trail Date Climbed: June 1997 and January 2003  Sucess!

Thigh deep snow in June, packed snow and ice near top with crampons and snowshoes necessary in winter...Long hike in summer....even longer in winter....

Route Climbed: South Meadow to Van Hoevenberg Date Climbed: 7/11/04  Sucess!

16 miles round trip to the summit and back, and it was shrouded in clouds when I got there. It cleared up a little bit, but it was still and enjoyable hike. The hike up took 3:18, the hike down 3:20 because it was very rocky and wet on the trail, and I had pictures to take on the way down as the sky cleared up. This was my 26th State High Point!

Snow on summit in June... nice feeling. This is a long hike and consumes the day.

You couldn't ask for a more beautiful day to hike. Surprisingly enough, no black flies, which made it all the more pleasant. At the top my cousin, my brother, and I had a great lunch, great views, and a great discussion on the best ways to stop the proliferation of zebra mussels in our lakes.

As my old buddy Number 9 says, "there's nothing like a day in the 'dacks to recharge the old batteries."

Route Climbed: from 4 corners Date Climbed: August 20, 1994  Sucess!

Camped at Lake Colden for a week. Hiked from Lake Colden to 4 corners, and up Marcy in the fog. As we ate lunch on the summit a break in the clouds opened up and by the time lunch was over the sky was clear. We enjoyed a beautiful sunny afternoon as we traversed accross to Haystack, down through Panther Gorge, and back to Lake Colden. Long, hard day but definitely worth it.

Route Climbed: van hoevenberg trail Date Climbed: November 30, 2003  Sucess!

I climbed this on a vacation in new york. left the Adirondack Loj Parking lot at 6:30 and summitted a little after noon. The first 6.8 miles of the trail were pretty easy with a mixture of snow, mud, and running water almost the whole way. the next 0.6 were a little harder. Once i got to the alpine zone, it turned to rocks covered in thick ice that were a little tricky in spots to negotiate. I even needed my ice ax a few times. the summit was extremely windy and cold, so my stay was pretty short. it snowed almost the whole time, but it did not accumulate much. there was less than 5 inches near the top and less than 3 at lower elevations. I think i was the only person to summit that day, since i did not see any tracks, or anyone heading up.

Ahh...Marcy, the crown jewel of NYS. Do it on a weekday, and you'll still have to share the summit. Go in winter and ski it like a man.

Great day for an easy day hike. It's long but we made a leisurely 9 hour hike of it, with an hour on the crowded summit and another hour in breaks at Indian Falls. Did this hike with my wife and 12 and 10 y/o kids. We all agreed, compared to other peaks, this one is pretty easy. Moderate grades to the top

Try it off peak - Winter or early Spring. Winter weather brings an essential factor to an otherwise tame peak. Main trail is relatively easy. Moderate grades at best.

Route Climbed: Upper Works - Lake Colden - Summit Date Climbed: 31-May-2003  Sucess!

Wonderful trip despite the weather.

From Lake Colden (Cedar Point lean-to), the trail follows up the Opalescent and Feldspar Brooks Trail, past Lake Tear-of-the-Clouds, to the peak.

The forecast was rain, rain, rain ... however we got a break. Did not start raining till we were on our way down and below the tree line.

The trails were very wet, with more mud than I have ever seen! Lucked out with visibility. Views from the summit were awesome.

Fun climb.
