Van Hoevenberg  Sucess!

The summit was cold, windy, and clouded in so we didn't have any views and we didn't stay up there very long. Oh well, still a great mountain.

Van Hoevenberg  Sucess!

It was raining but we went anyway! My friend and I hiked the Van Hoevenberg Trail to the top. We met a nice guy from Ottawa on the trail who hiked the rest of the way up with us. Cold, rainy, and extremely windy at the summit. Didn't stay at the top for long! Soggy, wet, and cold, but HP #21!

Tough early winter hike from the Loj  Sucess!

Great hike but I felt brutal! I had harly slept for 9 months - new baby :) - and had the flu. I thought I was going to die. Still worth it though. To top it off the State Troopers pulled me over for speeding (5 over the limit) just as my legs finally rebelled and cramped to punish me for the day I'd given them.

All the way from the Loj  Sucess!

Climbed from the Loj on a day hike. My compliments to the trail crews who obviously spent a lot of time working on the trail. Was stuck in the clouds on yet another summit. #23 on my state highpoint list

Rain for 18 consecutive hours!  Sucess!

We went to Marcy blind...no campsite, no directions, no clue about New England mountains. A nice guy from Lake Placid directed us to a free campsite off of South Meadow Road. We started the hike early in the morning and reached the windy, foggy, awesome top about five hours later. Then the rain started. It rained for 18 straight hours, and the descent from the summit made for a slow, slippery experience. Exhausted but proud, we finished New York's highpoint 8.5 hours after starting.

Marcy via Van Ho; John's Brook  Sucess!

Actually, I've climbed Marcy thrice - once long ago as a Boy Scout, and soloed it twice so far in 2006 (Mid-March with Skylight/Gray from the Loj, and May as part of a Great Range traverse from the Garden).

Mount Marcy

8th of 8 highpoints in 48 hrs. and thats including delaware. fell into snow up to my waist in late may, so be prepared. and if you leave before its light, pay close attention to the signs. we took a wrong turn about 100 yds in and wandered around on cross-country ski trails for an hour.

Route: Van Hoevenberg

Cold, wet, and turned windy day and the trail had steady running water. As we became more exposed to the wind we played it safe and turned around. Still a pretty fun hike despite a missed summit.

Route Climbed: Van Hoevenberg Trail Date Climbed: June 15, 1992  Sucess!

Preface this by saying this was in my college days:

Did this whole hike on LSD- It was amazing at times and really tough other times. I was working on the ADK 46ers in college and got a real job in CA so I was taken away from the area with only 28 of the high peaks done. Gothics and Colden were my favorites. Tough to go back after climbing in the west.

Route Climbed: Van Hovenberg Date Climbed: September 5, 1998 (1st time)  Sucess!

Soloed for highpoint #4; summit completely clouded-in. Only cleared up when I was too far back down. Glad to have returned 3 years later in perfect weather & great views.
