You couldn't ask for a more beautiful day to hike. Surprisingly enough, no black flies, which made it all the more pleasant. At the top my cousin, my brother, and I had a great lunch, great views, and a great discussion on the best ways to stop the proliferation of zebra mussels in our lakes.
As my old buddy Number 9 says, "there's nothing like a day in the 'dacks to recharge the old batteries."

Camped at Lake Colden for a week. Hiked from Lake Colden to 4 corners, and up Marcy in the fog. As we ate lunch on the summit a break in the clouds opened up and by the time lunch was over the sky was clear. We enjoyed a beautiful sunny afternoon as we traversed accross to Haystack, down through Panther Gorge, and back to Lake Colden. Long, hard day but definitely worth it.

I climbed this on a vacation in new york. left the Adirondack Loj Parking lot at 6:30 and summitted a little after noon. The first 6.8 miles of the trail were pretty easy with a mixture of snow, mud, and running water almost the whole way. the next 0.6 were a little harder. Once i got to the alpine zone, it turned to rocks covered in thick ice that were a little tricky in spots to negotiate. I even needed my ice ax a few times. the summit was extremely windy and cold, so my stay was pretty short. it snowed almost the whole time, but it did not accumulate much. there was less than 5 inches near the top and less than 3 at lower elevations. I think i was the only person to summit that day, since i did not see any tracks, or anyone heading up.

Ahh...Marcy, the crown jewel of NYS. Do it on a weekday, and you'll still have to share the summit. Go in winter and ski it like a man.

Great day for an easy day hike. It's long but we made a leisurely 9 hour hike of it, with an hour on the crowded summit and another hour in breaks at Indian Falls. Did this hike with my wife and 12 and 10 y/o kids. We all agreed, compared to other peaks, this one is pretty easy. Moderate grades to the top

Try it off peak - Winter or early Spring. Winter weather brings an essential factor to an otherwise tame peak. Main trail is relatively easy. Moderate grades at best.

Wonderful trip despite the weather.
From Lake Colden (Cedar Point lean-to), the trail follows up the Opalescent and Feldspar Brooks Trail, past Lake Tear-of-the-Clouds, to the peak.
The forecast was rain, rain, rain ... however we got a break. Did not start raining till we were on our way down and below the tree line.
The trails were very wet, with more mud than I have ever seen! Lucked out with visibility. Views from the summit were awesome.

18/04/2003 3 hours 20 minuites to the summit was a good time due to the excellent conditions of the trails. Trail was solid in the early morning and we zipped right up. On the lower sections still very sloppy and some ice in the shady sections in the afternoon. Excellent weather. One of many summits here. I was wondering where everyone was. Very low traffic for such a great day in April. This is an excellent conditioning hike and for those of us in Eastern Canada easy to reach in one day.
01/06/2001 3 hours 30 minuites to the summit was a good time due to the sloppy conditions of the trails.

What about it!!! For a first i pick a good one. I was'nt mentally prepared to go in that kind of situation. Let me put it that way, since i'm from Montreal and the only summit i've done before was the Mount-Royal (that is soooooooooooooooo easy), i can say this.... Wow!!!!!
In fact i've just return from it. I can say one thing... damn it feel's good to be home with the feets on the ground!!!! ;)
But i got a say it... I like it a lot!!! For a first, i got it all....
Sun, clouds, winds and heavy rain to go back. But tonight the only thing i'm gonna dream about.... Rocks!!!!!
I don't wanna see one more for a month!!!! grrrrr ;)
Summit reach on September 21 in a little bit more than 4hours at 26 years old.

It was an extremely hot, humid, and buggy day. It was miserable. Our stay at the top was only a few minutes due to the heat and bugs. Nevertheless, the view is great, but the hike is quite long with very few opportunities for views along the way.

This was my first true experience on a mountain of any size and proved to be a fantastic introduction.. and a great place to put into practice all that I had picked up playing in the La Cloche range in Killarney provincial park. The hike took my friend Adam and I about 2 hours and 20 minutes... the only people on that day who were quicker was a group of triathletes in training.
It was wonderful when the mountain finally came into out sights. Thoroughly enjoyed the view from the summit and had a fantastic 3 hour nap on some terrifically spongy moss. Great mountain... the mighty cloud splitter!
