Mount Meru and Kili's Southern Icefield

Mount Meru and Kili's Southern Icefield

Yet another photo of Mount Meru from the crater rim of Kilimanjaro. Dawn, January 2005. The cliffs of the Southern Icefield illuminated with the day's first light.

Re: Nice one

Thanks Scott. It was hard to go wrong given the conditions we were lucky to have.

Re: Nice one

Thanks. Meru's supposed to be a good trip, and only 3-4 days. I guess you walk through a wildlife zone with things like giraffe and buffalo at the start. The crater looks impressive.

(BTW, took your advice and posted this one not on the Kili page! But I have it linked into my trip report)

that's incredible

The light illuminates the banding in the ice very nicely!

Re: that's incredible

Thanks for the comments guys. I almost didn't post this due to its similarity to this shot, but the Meru page didn't seem to have one like it. It was an incredible scene for sure!

Cool.

I've seen similar shots before but this one is really cool. The patterns in the ice are interesting.

Unreal.

It's a little bit eerie. I love it.

I hope ...

to see it tomorrow again into the quality rank. As often it happens, the PotW winner is immediately sinked with a 3 stars vote by an envious member, I suppose.

With compliments!

Congrats

Photo of the week! Nice one.

Nice shots of Kili. I've been looking at a lot of your stuff. No wonder you like SP. You're not only a computer nerd, you're well traveled and well climbed.
