Trip # 7  Sucess!

Took my seventh trip up Mt. Monadnock. Ascended the White Dot trail and descended the White Cross trail. Had beautiful conditions the entire time, hardly any wind on the summit. Alternatively i would suggest the cascade link trail, leading to the red spot trail, and then meet up with the pumpelly trail to take to the summit.

My first mountain  Sucess!

I first climbed this as a school field trip in 7th grade (I think - it was a long time ago) by going up the White Dot and back down the White Cross. Since then I have enjoyed hiking up and down several (6 or 7) times more, most recently in 2007 via the Marlboro. It was the first mountain I ever climbed.

5x  Sucess!

Last climbed via the scenic Pumpelly Trail. I had the summit to myself for about 15 minutes on a sunny but crisp morning.

White Dot Trail  Sucess!

Climbed this guy twice, don't remember exactly when. It was my first hike in NH way back when I was a kid, and I loved it. My second trip was also great, but I did feel like there were just too many other people on the trail for my liking. I would recommend trying to find a time when there are fewer people, but it is enjoyable all the same.

Good Memories

Golly. I grew up climbing this hill. Good hike for kids. Can be quite popular and busy in the summer. Wait till the fall. I went to school nearby, so I must have climbed this literally, a dozen times! ha ha

My Son's first mountain  Sucess!

Did it with my wife and our 1 year old (ish) son. I had to wear him most of the time but I'm sure he loved it. We did.

Memorial Day Crowds  Sucess!

Up the White Dot down the White Cross. Very crowded trail. Perfect conditions, 70 degrees and sunny. Solid wind at the summit, upwards of 30mph. Fun Hike/Scramble.

white dot / white cross  Sucess!

This is the most climbed mountain in North America. it is covered with people and is very much the antithesis of why i hike. on a positive note however there are many areas throughout where bouldering is good. all 5.5 type stuff so no ropes are necessary.

fun mountain for beginners  Sucess!

i've also climbed Monadnok on atleast 3 other occassions. i've done the white dot trail and red spot trail. i would have to say the white dot is more fun. though red spot is challenging, the white spot is a little more relaxed and with a few good places to scramble it can be a lot of fun!

Climbed this in the summer of 1991, The one thing that stands out in my memory of this hike is the large crowd on the summit. It's a little different out west.

fun hike - great views  Sucess!

Coming from the Rocky Mountains of Utah, this peak was easy, but beautiful. Rewarding views from the top. The hike through the woods, scrambling up the granite was my favorite part of the hike. I could see the towers of Boston from there - it was very cool. Hiking the mountain made me feel at home for a few hours. The day we hiked it, we were one of the few groups on the trail - the solitude was wonderful. There are some pretty lakes in the area too. I wish I had the time that I could have camped out and built a campfire and slept under the stars.

Route Climbed: White Dot Date Climbed: June 1964  Sucess!

I climbed this mountain twice in the early 60's as a teenager, once with my family and the other time with our church youth group. It was the first mountain of any size that I ever climbed. The most amazing thing was the cool-aid stand at the top: runners would scuttle up and down the granite slopes to bring refreshment for us thirsty hikers (at a small price). The weather was cool enough that you wouldn't think to bring water along. Now when I climb, water is one of the main considerations. It was crowded even then, but still a really nice place to spend the day.

Route Climbed: many Date Climbed: many  Sucess!

For a while I climbed Monadnock at least twice a year - as a season-opener and a season-ender. This year I kept hiking year-round, but still climbed it twice. This weekend's climb was a fallback plan due to iffy forecast further north and a foot of new snow - still met a dozen people on the mountain. A very fun little hike if you don''t mind crowds.

Great hike, I love the rime ice. You sure wouldn't know about the 125,000 people each year if you only did it in the winter! If your're interested, check out my trip report "Double Jeopardy". (Sorry, no idea how to make a link)
