Surprisingly challenged at Beaver Brook  Sucess!

C2C 4 hrs 40 minutes. From the rim around Mt. Blue it's an easy walk-up, but I was surprised at how challenging Beaver Brook route is, and how fun. The constant ascent next to waterfalls is beautiful and challenging, and I would argue it is marked off class 3 scrambling. It made the hike to the top well worth it, lots of mist near the top, but beautiful nonetheless!

Off day  Sucess!

Took day off to try and catch some fall colors in Whites. Drive up nice but the leafs had already fallen on mountain. Nice trail and not crowded on a weekday post peak foliage. Cool views and fun alpine zone last half mile.

4000 footer #9!  Sucess!

Rather straightforward hike... about 8 miles or so round trip to/from TH to summit. This was my 3rd training hike before Mt. Rainier. Carried a 45 lb pack up this mountain!

Wet rocks and slugs  Sucess!

Came up and down the Beaver Brook trail. The ascent was climb-ier than I'd expected from a section of the AT, and the descent was tricky (it had rained the previous day, so everything was wet, slick, and covered in little banana slugs). But it was all worth it for the amazing view from the--nope, the top was clouded in, with visibility of about 100 feet. Oh, the White Mountains...

Beaver Brook Trail  Sucess!

Despite the warnings about the steep and slippery climb along the cascades, I attempted the trail with arthritic knees. I made it slow and steady, especially slow on the way down but so worth it. Had amazing weather and terrific 360 degree views from the summit which was somewhat crowded and chilly. The trail was empty for the most part but muddy, and covered with wet leaves making the steps and rocks a bit of a challenge. The cascades were quite full considering the lateness in the year. Colors are changing and that added to the beauty of this trail. I did run into one late nobo and a few others who realized this was steeper than expected. One tip: give yourself plenty of time to descend given the challenge and shorter days ahead. I would climb it again using a different trail but feel accomplished having done Beaver Brook successfully! This slow poke took 3 hours to summit and 4 hours to descend, others could do it much faster.

scary weather  Sucess!

Went up/down Beaver Brook Trail. Beautiful cascades up the first and only steep tough section of the trail. Weather forecast called for .1 in. of rain. Endured marble sized hail twice, 3 thunder and lighning cells, and over an in. of rain. Helped get another hikers dog back down after steeps got wet and slippery, don't know if the dog's owner was ignorant or was trying to do it in on the hike (the steeps weren't going to be safe for the dog even in dry conditions, and we met another party with a dog at the shelter! Fun hike, nice views, even saw the white booties of a moose near the spring water source.

the views were not exagerrated  Sucess!

Definitely one of the best mtns in New England for views from the top. One hundred and ten minutes up the Beaver Brook trail to the summit in great weather. The park ranger said the wildflowers in July are spectacular at the summit area.

Route Climbed: Glencliff-Carriage-Gorge Brook-Hurricane  Sucess!

Took one of the longer routes around the mountain. Was very tough on the knees and feet by the end. Would not recommend the uneventful Hurricane Trail going down. We hiked right as the snow started accumulating on the mountain in mid-October. Weather was lousy, and we had no views. Will definitely revisit it on a clearer day.
