Meet some through hikers  Sucess!

I've heard about this mountain many times but thought it wasn't "big" enough. On a whim I decided to go because it's the closest to Boston. Took the Carriage trail, sumitted, and then down the Beaver Brook. Basically a nice, easy hike, although the Beaver Brook trail was steep. Had fantastic weather and great views. Spent the night at the Beaver Brook shelter. Met 3 through hikers on their way to Katadin, and shared some of my food with them. We had an absolutely beautiful dawn as we looked down into the vally that was covered with fog. The wind was nearly still so the fog just quietly shrouded everything below and was very still and quite. Hard to describe the feeling of peace when looking down on that unless you've been there.

My first summit above treeline  Sucess!

This was part of my Appalachian Trail thru-hike, and most notably the first time in my life I had ever been above tree-line.

Frozen Brie Cheese  Sucess!

Climbed with a large group from the MIT outing club. I might have the year wrong. One fella in our tent slept with a wheel of Brie chees in his sleeping bag. Froze solid. ha Unfortunetly, it was the only food he brought. But we were nice and shared... :-) hmmm...hot chocolate

Snowboard Descent  Sucess!

Rode the Gorge Brook Trail from the summit to Ravine Lodge. Conditions were so good I climbed back up the Snapper and Carriage Road for a second run. Crusty above 3500", especially out of the trees.

Nice winter climb  Sucess!

This is a great mountain to climb in the winter. It gives you a little above tree-line experience with great views. I did it with my dog Jake in January.

i shall return!!!!

alas i failed to summit. attempted beaver brook trail. we lost the trail a few hundred yards in when it crossed the stream. ended up bushwacking for a couple hours til we found the trail again! after climbing along the most beautiful trail i have ever climbed, we reached what we thought was the summit at about 7pm, only to look up and see the true summit another 800 feet or so higher up. turns out we were on mt blue and had another couple hours to reach the summit but we were out of time and had to turn back or we would be desending after dark in the woods. we did not know at that time that my wife (and climbing partner) was 2 months pregnant!! we found out a month and 2 mountains later!

Winterish boy scout hike  Sucess!

Long enough ago I don't remember the route. I do remember 6" of fresh snow with more coming down, and some of us duct taping our cotton sweatpants to our boot to fashion gaiters. My adult self shudders.

Another cloudy start to the day, but then cleared up when we reached the summit. Winds were extreeeeemely significant. Quite chilly, but beautiful day with the sweetest guy alive. Clouds were really neat rolling over the mountains. Saw a moose! Good day.

Route Climbed: Gorge Brook Trail, Carriage Road, & Snapper Trail Date Climbed: June 22, 2005  Sucess!

Summit in and out of the clouds with very high winds. After ten minutes on the summit the clouds cleared out and the views were amazing. It was quite cold with the wind chill, but well worth it. Absolutely gorgeous day and I summitted with my girlfriend Nicolle.

Route Climbed: Carriage Rd(?), Beaver Brk Date Climbed: May '01, April '05  Sucess!

2001 climb had been cloudy - didn't get to see much. Made up for it yesterday with a spectacular spring day, almost total solitude on a Friday afternoon.
