Traverse from Stanford/Esha  Sucess!

Good long ridge traverse keeping to the high-points from Stanford. Tagged Esha as well. Fun scramble and scenery. Quick descent to Davis Lake and out.

Traverse from Stanford  Sucess!

We had camped in Pioneer basin the previous two nights (highly recommended) and exited back to Hilton Lakes trailhead by climbing Stanford, traversing over to Morgan, descending to Davis Lake, and hiking out. Most of the climbing on this traverse was fun class 2 with great views. Unfortunately my partner wanted to drop down to the big open bowl below the first sub-peak. Getting back on the true ridge required considerably harder moves than we'd hoped for with full packs. Long descent to Davis Lake was fun until the last 200' where the bushwhacking got intense...

From Davis Lake  Sucess!

Up the sandy and rather unfun slopes from Davis Lake. The way back was super fast and easy though.

Traverse from Mount Stanford (N)  Sucess!

A nice late season dayhike. The ridge between Stanford and Morgan can be kept to class 2 with care. The hardest bit is just before the last peak before descending into the bowl SW of Mount Morgan's summit. Trip report.

Via Nevahbe Ridge  Sucess!

Wild and rugged 5,000 ft. ascent of the 3 mile Nevahbe ridge to Morgan summit. This is such an aesthetic ridge line seen from highway 395 and am glad to finally get it done.

From Stanford  Sucess!

With AJ. Fun ridge traverse. Cliffed out on the way down from summit to Hilton Lake and had to backtrack on some rather unpleasant terrain. Finished the hike in the dark, relying on moonlight and AJs headlamp since I forgot mine.

From Mt. Stanford (N)  Sucess!

Traversed the ridge from Stanford (N) as part of a dayhike from Rock Creek Lake. The descent down the sandy slopes to Davis Lake was probably the best part of the day.

Esha canyoon  Sucess!

Climbed with brother Jon. Plan was to crampon up Esha Canyon from McGee creek, but this was a low snow year so lots of gaps between snow fields -- so we just rock-hopped up all the way up. Class 1/2 all the way except a couple of very short class 3 bits that we could have avoided by going up a scree slope. Nice climb, great views. Glissading down the snow fields made for a pleasant descent, very glad we didn't have to rock hop all the way down. Less than 4 miles one-way, a bit over 5,000' elevation gain.

From Davis Lake  Sucess!

Unsettled weather. The sky to the west was composed of black and purple clouds- very impressive, but I didn't stay on top for long. Signed the register, took my usual 360 panorama, ate a Slim-Jim and headed down. Started snowing about 3 minutes after leaving summit. Lower down and back at camp, it rained for the rest of the day.

east canyon  Sucess!

We started at the Hilton lakes Trail head just past the Crowley Lakes camp ground. We also noticed another Hilton lakes Trail Head sign near the Fire Station but this is not the one you want. The last 50 yards was rough and 4 wheel drive was needed, although there was 2 pull outs for 2 wheel drivers. The trail was switchbacks but we avoided them by taking an obsure trail that went straight up. After 4 or 5 swichbacks we dropped down into the drainage and took that to the top of the hill.
on top we found an old ming road and followed it to where it started switching. At on old dead log we went straight to the end and this was the canyon we climbed to the ridge.
It was 3rd and 4th class with very little route climbing.
gaining the ridge we turned south and stayed on the riger to the peak. It was 3/4 of a mile with 500 ft. vertical

Nevahbe Ridge  Sucess!

I forget the exact date. I remember this route being rated as 4th class, but thinking that it did not seem that hard.

From lake 9852 (2nd Hilton Lake ???). With Larry, Barbee ,

Ted , Derrick , Greg , David , and Garen. We started at Hilton Lakes Trailhead , then set up camp at the lake. Some crappy x-country until we got above the timber line, then mostly good snow. The cannister for the register was totally empty when I found it - I even looked on the south summit - no register book to be found. Fortunately Derrick had a fresh one to donate to the summit.

We tried to descend directly to Davis lake but got hung up on cliffs and had to go back up and take our original route down. Got back to camp well after dark.

It was a beautiful weather, but the 14 hour day was a bit much. We stayed up late for a belated 'happy hour', but we were too pooped to climb all the way Stanford the next day.
