Date Climbed: Jun 12, 2014

I followed the driving directions for the NW ridge approach and drove the FS road up to about the 9600' level. The road is definitely a 4X4 road but really wasn't all that bad. It did take a while, about 45-50 minutes to drive the 10+ miles. From where you start the hike the route is very straight forward all the way up. The beginning of the hike was very beautiful hiking though flat, green meadows to the base of the peak. From there it is about 1500' of gain in 3/4 mile. Very steep, but decent footing all the way. The views from on top were unbelievable in all directions. Very, very windy on top, but I was fortunate to have clear, blue skies.

The road in was the crux of this climb. A 4x4 road at best, further complicated by recent rains which turned portions of it into pig slop. This was an LVMC climb for one of our member's 50th peak. We took the north ridge to the summit under cloudy skies, but missed the rain coming through, picking it up on the way out. From here a few of us drove over to Wheeler Campground to climb Bald, Wheeler, and Jeff Davis on Sunday.

MoapaPkPage got wiped out?

Went up via Hampton Creek in 2007, 5000' gain, was on top by 10AM. Easy route, mostly trail. I'm surprised the 2WD routes aren't covered.

DeanRe: Page got wiped out?

I just saw this entry and thought I'd answer your question (page got wiped out?) Originally, Moriah was a Pete Y. page but he left summitpost and deleted all of his pages. I redid the page as this mountain is one of my favorites. Please feel free to add any 2WD routes that you are aware of. I tried to add what info I had but have only done the western route.

Long hike via Hendrys Creek Trail, then across the ridge to the summit rock shelter for an overnight camp. New moon, crystal clear skies, 12000 elevation, it all meant the clearest stars and Milky Way I have ever seen. A long-time dream come true.

aobbardGreat hike, long (4WD) drive  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 12, 2012

Just climbed, using Eric Willhite's excellent directions. Hike is great, but starting from Big Canyon T/H, means nearly 2 hours 4WD each way from valley floor- in other words, a titch more time 4WD than walking. A nice alternative would be to camp at the T/H, take the signed trail up onto the Table, explore there before summitting and returning to the T/H via the saddle, as Willhite describes.

BTW, as you drive up out of the valley, first nice campsites are around mile 7.0. (And yes, you really do need 4WD low)

Arrived at the trailhead at 3:30 a.m. Got a few hours sleep and climbed up at first light. No issues, fun mountain. Moriah Map and Report

Camped on the plateau, my friends were exhausted from the hike to that point so I didn't want to continue to the summit on my own from the north ridge.

I started from Big Canyon trailhead and followed the northwest ridge the whole way. I really enjoyed hiking in the northern area of the Snake Range.

DeanGreat day via NW ridge  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Oct 20, 2008

On Sep 27, I had closed to within a 600 (linear) feet of the summit when a thunderstorm chased me to safer ground. I returned three weeks later with some friends, Bob B, Duane G and Ken J to finish the job. A great hike on a great day (although windy & cold) with great companions.
