LazyJSkwiresLate in the season  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Nov 12, 2017

I keep thinking the hiking season is going to end and I keep being proven wrong. Came up from Beus Canyon, saw a couple hunters and that was about it. Walked back down in shorts and a t-shirt

bdz132Mount Ogden via Taylor Canyon  Sucess!
Date Climbed: May 29, 2017

This was my first ascent of Mount Ogden and I chose to start at the Taylor Canyon trailhead. The weather was warm, but there was still a lot of snow above Malans Basin. To avoid the snow, I climbed up to the ridge on the south. I don't think it saved me any time because the ridge is more rocky than it looks, but it made for a fun variation.

Came up here while mapping weeds. Started about a mile and a half below the peak on the Snowbasin side. Great peak!

Hiked over from the Allen Peak tram. It was warm Liam and I rested on the summit in the sunshine for about an hour before skiing back to Snowbasin via the race start chutes. Super fun day

A great trip, took about 4 hours to the top. Not terribly long or difficult and was a fun first peak for me.

Great hike up with my son Liam. Tons of snakes along the way. Two Gopher snakes, two Rubber Boas, a Garter snake and a fat Rattler in the upper ferny section of Beus Canyon. Nice and warm on top. Ate lunch and took a little nap. Great day.

Date Climbed: Apr 13, 2014

#1 04/13/14 w/ Brent. We ran into snow around 7500. We tired of the traverse across the snow fields so we ascended a head wall with perfect consolidated snow. When we reached another traverse we decided to stick to the ridge and go over the top of all the bumps. This made for some extra vertical gain. Beautiful day.

10/23/2013 From Snow Basin, I gained the saddle between Strawberry and DeMoisy. From Strawberry Peak I followed the ridge over DeMoisy Peak, The Needles, Mount Ogden, Allen Peak, and "No Name Peak". From No Name, I followed the service roads back to the Snow Basin parking area.

Date Climbed: Jul 30, 2013

#1 7-30-13 Brent & I completed the climb in ideal if not a little bit warm conditions. 3+20 up, 2+45 down. The "fern grotto" area was delightful to hike through. Except for 5 people in the first 15 minutes we never saw another person the entire hike. My GPS computed 5.84 miles for the complete trip to the summit. #2 10-22-13 With Brent & ZeeJay. Added Floyd Iverson, The Needles, DeMoisy Pk and Strawberry Pk before taking a shortcut back to the Beus Canyon trail.

Date Climbed: Jul 20, 2013

My family ran up from the bottom of Snowbasin to the Lodge at 8700 feet and much of the extended family hiked up. It was really hot and we took it easy to get up to the lodge in about 1:30. We grabbed some water and took the ridge trail up to the ridge and then traversed around and up to the summit. Beautiful day on top. Took about another 1:30 round trip back to the lodge including the time spent hanging out on the summit.

Hiked via Beus Canyon with my wife, and Tyler and Chai Ericksen. Ran into a small rattlesnake on the way up where the trail traverses over to Birch Creek Canyon. There was a huge work party of Wasatch 100 participants doing trail maintenance in Birch Creek Canyon. They did an amazing job on the trail, and cleared out a good section of scrub brush that normally beats your shins to a bloody pulp! Grateful for their hard work. The route was clear of snow. Summit was warm with a light breeze. We laid in the sun and ate lunch on the heli - pad, and spent about an hour there. Great day!

Date Climbed: Jul 28, 2012

We did this as a trad climb via the East Ridge and the NE Face. By my calculations its 1,200 vertical feet on the rock, and we made that into 12 pitches. Took us 6 hours on the rock and 10 hours car to car -- embarrassingly slow. The 2000 vertical foot hike up from the parking lot, to the base of the rock climbing, was dusty and hot, I recommend the Gondola!!!

Date Climbed: Jun 14, 2014

6/14/14 - From Beus to the Peak to the Snow Basin lodge for some good food, then down to the parking lot via the gondola.

7/7/12 - To the peak and then to the gondola.
Hiked up with some friends and one of their 11 year-old sons. The temperature was high, but the light breeze kept us comfortable. Hit the peak and then back to the ridge and over to the lodge at Snow Basin for a quick ride to the parking lot. Another great day!

6/23/12 - No more snow
Hiked up from Beus. I only saw a few people on the trail. It was really windy up top, but that made the high temperature feel nice.
There were only a couple of small patches of snow on the west side of the slopes, and they weren't on the trail. Oh, and I didn't see/hear any rattlers. A great day!

brekgroverFirst Failure of 2012!
Date Climbed: Jan 1, 2012

My son and I made a failed attempt via Beus Canyon. We made it to about 8,600 feet to the top of the Birch Creek Canyon switchbacks where the route turns west for the last leg to the Mt. Ogden saddle. We felt fine, and had plenty of daylight left, but that last traverse was too icy to be done safely with yak trax and trekking poles. A slip in that area would result in serious injury or worse. Still had a great day in the mountains with my boy!

What a great time to climb Mt. Ogden. Fall leaves were insanely beautiful. Views from the top were amazing in all directions.
