Beus Trail  Sucess!

#1 7-30-13 Brent & I completed the climb in ideal if not a little bit warm conditions. 3+20 up, 2+45 down. The "fern grotto" area was delightful to hike through. Except for 5 people in the first 15 minutes we never saw another person the entire hike. My GPS computed 5.84 miles for the complete trip to the summit. #2 10-22-13 With Brent & ZeeJay. Added Floyd Iverson, The Needles, DeMoisy Pk and Strawberry Pk before taking a shortcut back to the Beus Canyon trail.

Ran up from Snowbasin  Sucess!

My family ran up from the bottom of Snowbasin to the Lodge at 8700 feet and much of the extended family hiked up. It was really hot and we took it easy to get up to the lodge in about 1:30. We grabbed some water and took the ridge trail up to the ridge and then traversed around and up to the summit. Beautiful day on top. Took about another 1:30 round trip back to the lodge including the time spent hanging out on the summit.

Beus Canyon  Sucess!

Hiked via Beus Canyon with my wife, and Tyler and Chai Ericksen. Ran into a small rattlesnake on the way up where the trail traverses over to Birch Creek Canyon. There was a huge work party of Wasatch 100 participants doing trail maintenance in Birch Creek Canyon. They did an amazing job on the trail, and cleared out a good section of scrub brush that normally beats your shins to a bloody pulp! Grateful for their hard work. The route was clear of snow. Summit was warm with a light breeze. We laid in the sun and ate lunch on the heli - pad, and spent about an hour there. Great day!

Via East Ridge  Sucess!

We did this as a trad climb via the East Ridge and the NE Face. By my calculations its 1,200 vertical feet on the rock, and we made that into 12 pitches. Took us 6 hours on the rock and 10 hours car to car -- embarrassingly slow. The 2000 vertical foot hike up from the parking lot, to the base of the rock climbing, was dusty and hot, I recommend the Gondola!!!

I love this peak  Sucess!

6/14/14 - From Beus to the Peak to the Snow Basin lodge for some good food, then down to the parking lot via the gondola.

7/7/12 - To the peak and then to the gondola.
Hiked up with some friends and one of their 11 year-old sons. The temperature was high, but the light breeze kept us comfortable. Hit the peak and then back to the ridge and over to the lodge at Snow Basin for a quick ride to the parking lot. Another great day!

6/23/12 - No more snow
Hiked up from Beus. I only saw a few people on the trail. It was really windy up top, but that made the high temperature feel nice.
There were only a couple of small patches of snow on the west side of the slopes, and they weren't on the trail. Oh, and I didn't see/hear any rattlers. A great day!

First Failure of 2012!

My son and I made a failed attempt via Beus Canyon. We made it to about 8,600 feet to the top of the Birch Creek Canyon switchbacks where the route turns west for the last leg to the Mt. Ogden saddle. We felt fine, and had plenty of daylight left, but that last traverse was too icy to be done safely with yak trax and trekking poles. A slip in that area would result in serious injury or worse. Still had a great day in the mountains with my boy!

Don't short cut, ankle pain will result  Sucess!

What a great time to climb Mt. Ogden. Fall leaves were insanely beautiful. Views from the top were amazing in all directions.

Finally There!  Sucess!

Fourth and finally successfull attempt (2 fails because of deep snow, 1 fail due to general pansyness). Approached from the Bues trailhead -- 9 Hours round trip with leg cramps, vicious bugs, really aggressive rattlesnakes, and thousand foot trackless hillsides. Legs are numb this morning but this is a definite "Gotta Do" hike!

Beus Canyon  Sucess!

Climbed today by myself. Awesome day. The summit was a bit windy and cold, but not bad enough to stop me from having lunch on the heli-pad. 3rd summit of Mt. Ogden, first time via Beus. Great day!

From the ski resort  Sucess!

A nice hike with DB. The summit was so comfy that we hung out for 90 minutes and took a nap! Bagged Allen Peak too.

Still patches of snow at the top

Hiked up via Beus. Near the top we had to cross a few large patches of snow in the deeper, smaller crevaces. Crossing those was a little sketchy, as it was really steep, and if you were to lose your footing and start to slide you'd end up quickly sliding several hundred yards down the mountain into rocks.
Made it to the ridge just below and south of the peak, and returned. A great day.

Route Climbed: Beus Canyon Date Climbed: Oct. 17, 2009  Sucess!

So far this route has been the easiest to the summit that I have done. There were quite a few people hunting in the mountains. Maybe next time I go during hunting season I'll wear something orange.

Beus Canyon  Sucess!

What a great day for a hike! NOAA.gov said there was a 70 percent chance of thunderstorms at the summit, and I was a fool not to heed the warning, but luckily they were wrong and it was a nice, cool, shady day, and I didn't feel any raindrops or hear any thunder.

The ferns in the valley were thick and wet from earlier rain, and I was drenched after getting through them, but that's my lone complaint for the day.

I ate lunch part of the way up, but still made it to the top in 4 hours. The view was amazing, between the wispy clouds that streamed quickly by.

Beus Canyon Route  Sucess!

Nice day, started out overcast but by the time I dumped my can of tuna at the top (faulty can opener) it was nice and sunny. Hey, there's a road to the top ...

West Face  Sucess!

Lost count of how many times Ive climbed Mount Ogden, The Heli Pad on top is a good place to lay out and get a tan. I climbed the West face in winter and glissaded down the couloir. That was fun!
