My first ascent of Mount Olympus  Sucess!

Started breaking snow not long after the creek crossing, then Sam caught up with me just below the saddle wearing trail runners and shorts! He broke trail the rest of the way to the summit, we practically swam through the snow through the scramble, visibility was garbage at the summit. A great day!

Colorful Ascent  Sucess!

Early fall color changes in the high elevations made this hike quite pleasant. Very steep trail. Fun scramble at the end. Saw a dachshund making the ascent to the summit. If a dachshund can do it anyone can!

Third Hike of the Season, Tough one for us!  Sucess!

Took us 8 hours round-trip, extended by perhaps an hour+ due to a case of heat exhaustion in our party and a full lunch at the summit. Good thing we started in the morning on this 95-degree (F) day! Felt as though we were hiking down into an oven on the way down. I won't be ascending this again until the weather cools again in the fall. All in all, a really challenging and exciting hike with excellent views not only on the summit (which required some scrambling from the saddle on up) but also on the switchbacks on the upclimb and at the saddle.

The scramble at the top was a welcome change of pace after what felt like a grueling last mile or so of the climb to the saddle. Look forward to doing this one again.

Watch out for diamondbacks! Ran into one on the road on the way to the trailhead and I hear they love this trail more than others... the desert-brush and baked terrain at the lower elevations of the hike seem to be prime rattler territory.

Nice after-work climb  Sucess!

Went with a buddy from work for my first hike of the season. The trail was steeper than I anticipated (this is the only hike I've ever done where my knees were sore afterward), but the scrambling at the end was pretty straight forward. The small summit has nice views of the other major Wasatch peaks in Salt Lake County. We were treated to a great sunset on the way down, and the city lights below made it possible to get back down without needing a flashlight. After seeing the freeway below on the way back down, it seemed like it took forever to get back down.

First Timer  Sucess!

Wow, lived next door to this peak my whole life but today was my first time hiking it. Wonderful hike, diverse terrain with a fun boulder scramble to the top. If you keep a nice constant pace you can finish in under 4 hours.

Big thanks to all those who put info on this site here. Really helped while hiking today.

Good time for a hike  Sucess!

This was my first time on this hike. I went up with Lori's brother and some people in a hiking group. It was awesome company and an awesome view from the summit. The snow we got at the top was beautiful.

Many times  Sucess!

oct, 13 2003 was the first time I did this hike, since then I've climbed the west slabs numerous times and hiked up this trail many, many times. It's always a good time and the view of the valley from the top is extraordinary. salud!

Happy New Year!  Sucess!

I climbed Mt Olympus with Joe and Shelley to celebrate New Years this year. I sat whimpering at the ice crux just long enough (plus my leg cramp) to miss the last ascent of the year, but I got the first of 2009 at 5 minutes past! I enjoyed watching a half-dozen firework shows in the valley, and then I spent the night on top - which I highly recommend to anyone who loves winter climbing in the Wasatch.
