Done the Tolcat's trail and west slabs. Don't underestimate the hike. It's steep.

Almost broke my marriage  Sucess!

Started the hike just a little late in the day. Took my wife with me, and it was an unseasonable hot September day. She planted herself about mid-mountain on the section of steep rock, and wouldn't budge. With nose-ring and pull cord, metaphorically speaking, i dragged her the rest of the way to the top. Luckily, the views and scenery softened her, and it turned out to be well worth it. Until we came down the last 2 miles of exposed microwave type hillside. We baked and I still haven't lived that down. Glad to say that she still enjoys hiking to this day.

felt the heat  Sucess!

I flew in from NJ the day before, after working an overnight shift. I was on a trip to do King's Peak and was meeting up with someone later that day. Before my trip started, back in the spring I was looking for a hike to do in SLC, when I saw this on an atlas page, and lo and behold I came across the page here on SP, which aided me before the hike. I started at dawn to avoid the heat, but still felt it coming down. I wore a brand new pair of boots, which was not a good thing. One reviewer of the boots, said they didn't need to be broken in, well they do! The views of the mountains and SLC were great. I'm glad I did this hike.

Almost died...  Sucess!

I completely underestimated this hike. I had no idea what i was getting into. A friend called me up and asked me to go with her. So I just up and left with what i had on. Some levis and a black shirt. I bought a 20oz water bottle and started hiking. I made the water last to the summit, but the scorching 100 degree day was taking its toll. Half way down I talked a hiker into giving me a sip of water. By then i was severely dehydrated... I'm not sure how i made it the rest of the way, i don't remember even getting back to the car or driving to the 7-11. But I do remember how good the 3 frosty gateraids were!

Mount Olympus  Sucess!

Took the trail up. Place was a ghost town in the AM, but throngs of people headed up around noon as I was getting back to the TH. Saw a rattlesnake near the summit.

Traffic Jam at the top!  Sucess!

We thought we were smart to hit the trail at 7:00am! HA - virtual traffic jam at the top and HOT HOT HOT coming down. Unbelievable as it seemed there were people just heading up at 1:00pm, in the 96degree weather with no sunglasses, no hat/head protection and empty 8 oz water bottles... yikes

Once is Enough  Sucess!

I enjoyed the climb, pretty at the top. Sweltering on the way down, ran out of water. Overall pretty but I've heard Phifferhorn is better.

Climbed via the West Slabs Route  Sucess!

My buddy from out of town and I started this climb at 2:30am and finished at 1:30pm. We free soloed up the massive west slab route, and then we traversed over the ridge to Mount Olympus and down the main trail. We were almost bitten by two rattlesnakes, and we saw five mountain goats. They are feakin' awesome, I have never seen one before. We decided to do this one on no sleep in the past 30 hours, and by the time we were finished we were dead tired.

Check  Sucess!

Checked another mountain off my list. Arrived at the trailhead at about 8:30AM and had a leisurely stroll up the mountain. Ascended via the usual "Mount Olympus Trail." There was only snow for maybe the last mile of the trail.

Not overly crowded on the way up, but on my way down there were a whole lot of people heading up.

Sad Attempt to the Saddle

This was a very sad, yet spoonish, attempt of mount olympus. did not make the summit, but atleast took a wiz on the saddle, which was fun in its own right. (the trip, not the whizz)

Happy New Years!  Sucess!

I climbed Mt Olympus with Joe and Shelley to celebrate New Years this year. I sat whimpering at the ice crux just long enough (plus my leg cramp) to miss the last ascent of the year, but I got the first of 2009 at 5 minutes past! Then I spent the night on top - which I highly recommend to anyone who loves winter climbing in the Wasatch.

Re: Various ascents

You know, if you knock off a few more ascents, we should probably just name the peak after you :-)

13 pitches of Dream scrammbling  Sucess!

Hit up the old REI garage sale then scrambled the West slab. Hot on the face in the summer, but easy approach up colouir. I did it in my sandles and used a sturdy stick for snow. (Climbing shoes on the face though) descended main trail down then shuttled with nice folks.

Must Do!

04/22/06 - Amazing! That is all I can say about Mt. Olympus. The view from the saddle is amazing, the view from the summit is amazing.
11/03/07 - Talked my cousin into doing it this time with me.
11/16/08 - Still an amazing hike!
11/06/10 - Hiked to the stream with Dean, then summited alone.

The Main Drag  Sucess!

That was a nice workout. Hiking just before 9AM, down just after 1PM with a leisurely time on the summit. Next time I'll traverse out to Triangle and maybe Raymond.
