Finally sun!   Sucess!

After a week full of rain and clouds, the sun finally made an appearance. Beautiful day and a great hike. Bopped over to East while I was up there. Started at Osceola trailhead. My favorite approach of the 4ks so far! 3/48

Bluebird day  Sucess!

Climbed with East Osceola for a training hike. Bugs and trail is very rocky. Views on top are wonderful. Gets steep and some light scrambles between the two. Best weather day couldn’t of been more perfect.

4000 footer #7!  Sucess!

Climbed this as another training hike in preparation for Mt. Rainier. It was easier than Lafayette/Lincoln, but love the views over Waterville Valley and Lincoln, NH.

Not sure  Sucess!

Not sure which route I followed, but it was the summer of 2001 when I was working as an Appalachian Trail caretaker in the Bigelows of Maine and I became obsessed with summiting the 4,000 foot peaks of New England. My copy of the White Mountain Guide states that I made the ascent on October 3 of that year.

nice late fall hike of both peaks  Sucess!

I did a morning out and back from the Kanc over East Osceola on a day that I thought would just be rain, but it was actually no rain and just snow in the summits. There was only about 2" of snow but the rain from the day before had frozen overnight and made the rocks quite treacherous so I ended up putting on my Microspikes about 2/3 of the way up East and it made all the difference. The open slide area between the knob and the summit was hard with the ice and light snow but the rest was just a one foot over the other slog up the mountain. The Chimney was fun but challenging with ice and snow on it, and even more challenging descending it on the way back. There are some fun chimneys like that in the Catskills that really add a change of pace to a hike! No views at all I was totally in the clouds with 23MPH winds picking up all the light snow and blowing it around.

Twofer  Sucess!

Hiked with East Osceola. I liked the chimney on the side of it.

#15!  Sucess!

Loved this hike. Amazing views at the summit. This, along with East Osceola, had a bit of everything I enjoy about hiking.

Osceola via Tripoli Rd  Sucess!

Nice trails with lots of stretches with no big rocks to step on and over, my feet loved this one. Nice views, but very buggy.

Perseid Meteor Shower  Sucess!

Stayed up to watch the meteor shower and sunrise. LONG, cold windy night, but beautiful.

Mount Osceola  Sucess!

Quick climb from the gap. Trail was nice and easy, and great views from above the cliffs. Lots of bugs though.

from Tripoli  Sucess!

First 4000'er after moving back to New England and a good reminder of how rugged trails are here. Hiked it with my dog. Cloudy so no views, except for 5 minute window to the N.

From Tripoli  Sucess!

Nice easy climb up from Tripoli Road. Views on top were spectacular as advertised, and we got a little bonus too- a Harvard a capella group came up the mountain and gave a performance on top! Definitely an experience I will not forget.

Clouds!  Sucess!

When you've only got one day, you've got to put up with whatever the weather is (assuming it's not life-threatening!). I hiked and got rained on for no view whatever. It was still good.

Father's Day 4000 Footer!  Sucess!

When the family asked what I wanted for Father's Day I said a Family Father's Day Four Thousand Footer...with no complaints. At least I got the 4000 footer part 8-)
