Hike/scramble  Sucess!

Early summer made this partly a snow climb

Spent the night

DEEP Snow

First ever scramble attempt. The snow was very fresh and very deep. It made travel tough and long. It was windy and rainy and we eventually decided to call it quits and turn around. Didn't reach the summit.

Cloudy  Sucess!

Pretty brutal, straight up climb. If you want a strong hike, Persis can grant you that. The trails are currently loose with shale rock and dirt along with quad burning high root steps. It was a great hike, but clouds prevented our views.

west ridge at night  Sucess!

TH was MUCH easier to spot with snow and tracks most of the way. ReubenD (of NWhikers) had some helpful advice to avoid the false summit-unnecessary gain. Drained from variable snow when I reached the summit at 11:45pm and ditched my original plan to do the Index traverse. Soloing this as a night hike was amazing. Unfortunately no camera =( Must redo for pics and with a friend.

Clouds and snow

bushwacked our way up the first 1-2 miles, some rocky switchback, then breaking trail to the top. Cloudy, but beautiful hike

Persis in mist  Sucess!

Extremely low visibility but summited regardless and got a few glimpses of Index across the cirque.
Date on this one is a wild guess, it was sometime spring or summer 2009.

Mt. Persis  Sucess!

The most recent of several trips up this peak - I think the first one was in '91. Someday I'll make the time to do the Index traverse.

Steep but Fun  Sucess!

The trail is a bit easy to loose track of once gaining the ridge. A few wrong paths later we made it to the summit. Altogether, a bit steep but great views.

Bugs... and brush  Sucess!

Climb gets right down to business from the road, steep and very brushy. Caught a nice sunset and hiked out in the dusk. A little trimming of the brush would make this a much nicer climb.

Great!  Sucess!

I really enjoyed this peak for an afterwork hike. Trail starts off as more of a steep climber's path and then opens up into a nice open forest as you traverse over to open snow slopes. Hit solid snow around 4,500'. The views from the summit were better than I expected. Stay away from the cornices. That northface is pretty legendary. Killer view of Index!

West Ridge  Sucess!

This was the trip that I met Eastking, and I almost brought my heavy duty boots. Glad I didn't because there was little snow.

Before the gate closed  Sucess!

Started from the turnout where the improvised trail starts, great little short hike for half a day or so. Went with my grandmother and her husband, and they were in better shape than I was!

Great Views!  Sucess!

This wasn't my original goal for the day, but another local peak required too much bushwhacking for my liking. This became my backup plan, as I had yet to attempt it. Great views from the summit. I preceded this with nearby dumpster-dive blob "Little Haystack" (a.k.a. "TOC Rock").

Worth the hike  Sucess!

My partner and I were the only folks up there today. Got above the fog and made it to the summit by noon. OUTSTANDING view of Index, Baring and everything else. Hard work, but definitely worth it. There's still snow around the tarns, but the trail is totally clear. Very overgrown in some spots. Great day!

Gate open, trail clear  Sucess!

The Forest Service road (up Protor Creek) is now unlocked, so it is possible to drive to the start of the climber's trail up the west ridge. The trail is snow free and the access to the top is pretty quick. Great Views. Good bang for the buck.

Second Time a Charm  Sucess!

Hey, I found the trail this time! Ben and Anna from OSAT, Josh Lewis and East King from Summit Post and NW Hikers met me in Monroe and then we climbed the mountain. Pretty good views for the minimal effort involved. As Greg said in the report its "a lot of bang for your buck".
