Route Climbed: Standard Date Climbed: Summer, 199?  Sucess!

Don't remember exactly when I climbed Princeton, but do recollect that it took me two attempts. The first was via an old trail--probably not in existance any longer, as it was not maintained even then--up the back side (west) and from the south; made it almost all the way, then turned around when confronted with a developing thunderstorm. Which turned north, and completely missed the mountain, meaning I'd done 95 percent of climb, then turned back for nothing! This was so irritating that I returned a week later, and did the summit via the standard route.

It was great having Princeton under my belt, because for a few years I could lord it over Aaron--he'd not done the mountain, had no desire to do so, and looked upon the peak as, well, drab--as the only mountain I'd done that he hadn't! Then, for some strange reason he decided to do it, now it's one of his favorite Sawatch summits, and I'm not particularly enamored with it. I'm pretty sure this is all important.

Route Climbed: East Slopes from Mt Princeton Road Date Climbed: July 24, 2004  Sucess!

Did this peak the day after Antero with my buddy, Chris Calvert. The hike up the road was uneventful ( or should I say boring). The biggest challenge was finding the unmarked turnoff point off the road. We found it with no problem, but ran into several climbers who missed it and wound up going over Tigger Peak by mistake. The only other challenge was trying to pick the right place to depart from contouring on the talus to climb up to the summit ridge. We could see the "mine" ahead of us and knew that was too far so we departed for the summit ridge well in advance. A bit of a scramble up the ridge and we were on top. A fun day for a road hike.

CD, Kara, Denali & Yukon (our Samoyeds) and I accidentally detoured over Tigger Peak (13,300) on the way to the summit of Princeton. Opps!!!

I thought this was a nice hike. I was against hiking a road...if you can drive it, how fun can it be to hike? It was really not too bad. I liked that we could see the whole route almost the entire way. I appreciate the added motivation! What a small world that we met a fellow from the town right next door to us in IL?!

Route Climbed: Road / Trail (standard) Date Climbed: July 8, 2004  Sucess!

Pretty easy climb but lots of talus. Seemed to take longer than I expected but it probably had something to do with the 4 fourteeners I'd done in the previous few days more than the climb. Returned over Tigger Peak and down to the road.

My first 14er! It seems like so long ago too. I remember there was a big forest fire during the time and the whole hike up had a burned pine scent to it. Not my favorite peak in retrospect, but at the time it was quite exhilirating.

While driving back from our brief trip to the San Juans, prominent Princeton caught our eye, and we climbed it the next day. Nothing eventful happened during the hike in any way, except that we hitched a ride once we returned to the road to escape a heavy downpour.

This mountain is prettier from afar than up close. Busy trail.

4WD to the Radio Towers and hiked the switchbacks up the road before starting steep trail to the Right. Great day for this hike which was more of a climb than a hike. Not a cloud in the sky and no one on the summit. Lots of boulders to cross. No wind on the summit. Awesome!

Route Climbed: Normal/Princeton Rd. Date Climbed: 9/15/03  Sucess!

Parked just above the antennas and started under foot up the Princeton Rd. at 8:30. Easily found the trail off of the road and gained the shoulder SE of Tigger that disclosed the rest of the route. We took the advice of another hiker that said to follow the Y in the trail and gain the ridge around 13,600'. I think this was a mistake and we ended up on very lose talus and scree. After gaining the ridge just above 13,600', we followed the nice trail to the top. The only snow was at the summit in and around the wind shelters. We followed the trail back down the ridge and continued down to 13,300 or so. Found a nice trail back down to the main trail. I would take this route the next time up Princeton. Hiked the road back to the car and was back 7 hours or so after departing. Nice day!!!

Route Climbed: East Slopes Date Climbed: September 17, 2003  Sucess!

After climbing Harvard and Columbia in the morning I drove to the 10800 parking area on Princeton Road and got about 3hrs of sleep. I left the truck at 7:15pm under a clear starlite sky. The climb was straight forward with no snow and beautiful stars. I returned to the car at 10:45pm.

Route Climbed: East slope  Sucess!

Parked just beyond the antennae the night before and made it to the summit by 10:30 which gave me about an hours worth of descent before the thunder and lightning started.

A couple of the snowfields had me wishing I had not left my ax in the truck. Easy enough not to fall, but if I had...

Mount Princeton is a stately mountain. A mountain with a good look. Unfortunately, the good stops there for me. This is just my opinion, but I wasn't enamored with this hike up talus. I also thought the views were uninspiring. I think for the above reasoning I probably won't ever hike Antero, too much like Princeton.

Route Climbed: Stadard Date Climbed: May 19, 2003  Sucess!

The Mt. Princeton road was passable by a Suburu wagon in 4WD and we parked at the radio towers. Some snow fields with long run-outs below "Tigger Peak" made things a bit too interesting. So, putting safety ahead of convenience, we climbed up the loose talus of "Tigger" to gain the snowless ridge.
