From Onion Valley  Sucess!

Paid for a campsite only to sleep in my car overnight. I should have just parked near the trailhead - in spite of the "no camping" sign I doubt anyone would care as long as I didn't pitch a tent

West Ridge from Glen Pass  Sucess!

I stayed close to the crest of the ridge, and did not encounter any class 3 moves. There was a bit of scree and lose rock, but avoidable by staying close to the ridge proper. Took about 1.5 hours to reach the summit from Glen Pass, and an hour to return, all at a relatively slow pace. The view from the top in all directions is outstanding and makes the excursion worth it. Trip report

Day Hike from Onion Valley  Sucess!

After days of rain, the temperatures turned warm with a vengeance. I took the south south west ridge right to the base of the peak, then headed somewhat left up some easy class 3 rock. I found an easier way off it coming down. Almost uncomfortably warm at 12,890'. The hike back up to Kearsarge Pass was a big ugh, ugh, ugh. Still better than being down in the valley, where it was nearing 100 degrees. Beautiful views from up there and worth the longish hike.

Wind Blown!  Sucess!

Ascended south ridge to avoid climbing under cornices. So damn windy on ridge and western side, found refuge in Class 3 chutes and skipping over ridge to climb snow for a bit. A lot more fun than I expected. Descended SE slope by boot glissading down to trail.

from ridge to SSW  Sucess!

The ridge from the SSW is a bit more scrambly, and definitely more solid than the typical slog. The last summit "block" is definitely NOT class 1; as you approach the last summit pinnacle, either cross to the R for a class 2 on very crappy rock, or go around L for either a quick class 3 to the ridge, or class 2+ (a bit farther on), with a backtrack SE up a ramp to the ridge.

Re: from ridge to SSW

That's exactly how I did it, HWS. The ridge was surely far superior than coming up the steep, sandy slopes I know others have taken.

Traverse from Gould  Sucess!

Nice views otherwise pretty boring. Good to tick this off the SPS list.

East Ridge  Sucess!

Over from Gould with a full pack, the beginning of an excellent 4 day trip from Kearsarge Pass. Center Basin was my favorite of the trip.
