Went up with my dad and little brother. Enjoyed a nice slow hike to the summit. Snow was at about 3,800 feet or so and provided some entertainment amidst the foggy summit conditions.

Went to climb Mt. Ellinor but the ranger said it was between winter and summer routes so opted for Mt. Rose.

snow at 3400 feet. less than one foot deep on the summit. i hate this hill, but it's only an hour from the house and 3 hours round-trip hiking time.

The weather was perfect for this hard hike to the summit of Rose. I encountered snow at about 3500 feet, mixed with ice and it was hard to get up the steeper sections of rock near the summit. Upon reaching the summit I was awarded a spectacular view of the southern Olympics as well as Lake Cushman, shrouded in mist, over 3,500 feet below. I then continued my hike down the ridge and had good views of Mt. Pershing, Copper Mountain and Mount Ellinor. Great trip. First time I was at the top and it wasn't foggy.

Mt. Rose is good exercise and certainly doesn't have large crowds, but if you're after the view, I prefer Ellinor.

Mount Rose is a difficult hike and not so much a climb. It continues onward and upward for what seems like forever. On reaching the summit, which is a pile of basalt rocks, the view was of beautiful lake Cushman, Lightning Peak, Copper Mountain and the hood canal area. It was definitely worth the effort and got me in shape for my Mt. Skokomish climb a month later.
