Summit county requirement  Sucess!

Good inclines on this shorty. Nice view of gore range, summit county and the interstate.

Royal Flush

Got up to pitch 15 and the storm came rolling. This thing is one monster slab. Rated as a sport climb, it should not be underestimated as such. It requires route finding, gear and it is in a sub-alpine environment where the weather hits out of no where. Pretty badass.

After work  Sucess!

Would really like to climb the chossy face east of the true summit. With the approach it is a grade III climb. I think there is a way to rap down from the top of the formation 2-3 times, thus eliminating the approach that makes ig grade III. Any info would be appreciated.

short but steep hike  Sucess!

Nice little day hike to a rocky, tree lined ridge leading to the summit. Views of the Gore Range, town of Frisco and Peak one in Ten Mile Range. Took time for looking around up top, the best views may actually be from the large cairn on the ridge below the summit. Fun!

On way to Peak 1  Sucess!

Good place to hang out and enjoy the view before heading up to Peak 1. My wife and I couldn't find good roadside camping due to all the beetle closures, so we packed it up to Masontown and camped at the ruins. Awesome nightime views of the city, and the dawn on the continental divide.

Great Warm-up Hike  Sucess!

Mount Royal is a convenient way to stretch your legs after arriving from the flat lands of the Midwest. I happened to grab Hoosier Pass the afternoon before conquering this little beast, which is a steep, steady jog up to a great set of sheer cliffs.

The view from the eastern edge of the summit ridge is spectacular and the whole Dillon valley opens up in front of you. This hike alone won't acclimatize you, but it's a good morning exercise before stepping up to something a bit more tricky!

All Seasons  Sucess!

Having lived in Summit County for a number of years, I've climbed Royal countless times in all seasons.

My Favorite, Hiking up and spending the night to watch the 4th of July show in 2000. Kind of weird watching the show from above.

Standard Route  Sucess!

When I awoke this morning, I had grand visions in my head of continuing on to Peak 1 and Tenmile. Then, an infection got the best of me. I was on my knees during part of the ascent to Royal, with my hiking partner Cassandra asking: Do you want to go back to the truck? My resolve was strengthened when some local Frisco b*&#h in tennis shoes carrying a convenience store water bottle looked at me and said: Well, with that heavy pack you've got on, it's no wonder you don't feel well. Listen sister: You get stuck in the woods tonight and cry to SAR via 911... Me? I'll just bivy with my mini survival kit then hike out in the morning.

Anyhow...I hiked on to Victoria, but looked at the ridge leading up to Peak 1 and with the clouds rolling in and me being sick, I knew it was a no-go. I was so sick Cassandra dove my truck home. I didn't wake up until the I-70 and 470 interchange! Partner: Cassandra

Cold August  Sucess!

Nice hike up to the summit on a somewhat busy day. Unusually cold day in August.
