Camped at Upper Boy Scout for East Face on Whitney followed by East Ridge on Russell the following day. Amazing views!!! Loved the small summit to ourselves for admiring Whitney.

Went up & left at headwall near the top to reach the summit. Couldn't find the route to the right of the headwall.

Fun and sometimes exposed East Ridge. Sometimes stayed on the ridge proper, other times dropped lower to easier terrain. Snow left over from 1-2 nights of storms made for some precarious movement. Downclimbed the same way and then hit Carillon. Climbed in back-to-back days after a day-hike of Humphreys.

Day hike of Russell and Whitney together from MR. Tried to add Muir to the list, but scrambled up the wrong peak. There's a phony register on top of one of the unnamed pinnacles near Muir. Someone should remove it.

We were very close, but felt like things were getting too dicey with the limited day light. I told myself that day that I did not regret turning around.

Josh Lewis and I made an attempt on the east ridge. According to my GPS we came within 200 vertical feet of the summit. Our decision was based on excessive exposure and 3 hours of daylight remaining. We did Mount Carillon on the way back to camp.

The east-ridge was awesome! Second summit of a great four-peak traverse with Sawtooth Sean. The crux of the day was finding the spot to exit the ridge and drop into the south face gully. Easy to see from below, but harder to see from above. Continued on to Whitney. Trip Report

jesu, joy of man's desiringFish Hook Arête (5.9)   Sucess!
Date Climbed: Oct 19, 2011

jesu, joy of man\'s desiring

An ultra-aesthetic route. P1: use the left of the two steep obvious cracks. On the lead, with frozen fingers, it felt like 5.8+ …P3 is sort of pumpy: the natural line does go a few feet down left of the arête, some wild air under your feet.

Descending toward the “notch”…the arête across the way looks like vertical 5.10--from the notch I climbed directly up this narrow face on great little knobs, using a few tiny cams--steep but easy! We got a late start and had to find the "South Face Right Side" descent route via headlamp.

There is confusion about the route name spelling. It is "Fish Hook Arête." In 1974, Colliver and Cleare seemed to settle on this.
