Re: RecentI took it yesterday. The snow is melting out fast at this point. Better than it was last year though.
I should note though that above 8,500 feet Mount Shasta actually has an average snow pack this year so it will be white for a while yet, not totally naked by the end of June. Good chance to climb Avi Gulch this summer.

Congratulations!I don't think any of my three got out to a spot like that quite so quickly. Thinking back, I don't think they've been to that spot with me yet. Maybe with there being more snow up your way, I'll finally give Shasta a try and return to spots like that for warm up hikes.

Re: Congratulations!Thanks much! The kids are lucky though they don't know it, of course. I hope you are able to make it up this way this year. It was not the best winter but better than it has been the last couple years. Heart Lake is a great hike for kids too. Plenty of off-trail stuff too for anyone who wants more of a challenge. Perfect for an afternoon!
