Via East Slope from Dauntless Mine  Sucess!

In an effort to minimize snow travel, particularly with large late-season cornices slaughing off the ridge with Sherman, we took the direct route up the eastern slope of Sheridan. Though steep, a faint use trail begins switch-backing up the mountain about 1/3 of the way up the ascent, speeding progress. We enjoyed a private, quiet summit, happy to be far from the Sherman crowds.

east slope  Sucess!

A pretty standard, easy, snow-free scramble to the top. Glissading down the south ridge over to Peerless was sweet!
Great weather too!

Fourmile Creek, good fall weather  Sucess!

Set off for Mt. Sherman, my wife's first 14er. Uncertain about the exact date. Upon reaching the saddle, I decided I would have time to tag Sheridan and rejoin her by the time she got to the top of Sherman. One of my first 13ers.

From Fourmile Creek  Sucess!

I visited this nice summit on my way back from Mount Sherman. I had it all to myself as I watched crowds of people topping out on the saddle and heading for Sherman. I'm glad I got an early start. My slideshow is here: Mount Sherman and Mount Sheridan from Fourmile Creek

Winter ascent  Sucess!

June 29 2021

After working a long shift near Fairplay, I headed to the Mt. Sherman Trailhead to climb Mount Sheridan. I started up the mountain at 7:00 PM or so and got to the summit around 8:15 PM. Above 13,000 feet the mountains were covered in ice fog so I didn't get a view from the summit, though I did sign the summit log.

The fog became quite thick and I did get disorientated at one place on the way down. I found were I was and was able to make it down to the mountain, arriving at the vehicle just after 9:00 PM.

December 23 2006

Winter ascent with two others. After driving alone to 11,000 feet on the 22nd, I walked to 11,560 feet and camped. The night was -7F. At 12,100 feet, I waited for and met three others whom planned to climb Sherman and Sheridan with me. Another member caught up later. The five of us climbed Sherman and three of us climbed Sheridan. It was a great trip in good weather.

Route Climbed: ASARCO Mine Date Climbed: December 6, 2006  Sucess!

Parked at the winter TH at the ASARCO mine, slogged up the road to the Iowa Amphitheater. After summitting Gemini Peak in 40mph winds, continued over to Mt. Sherman in nice calm, 20-25mph winds. Wrapped up the hike with summitting Mt. Sheridan. Fun glissade back to Iowa Gulch. Great Solo day.

Last Stop on My Iowa Gulch Traverse  Sucess!

Fifth summit of the day. Four hours, twenty minutes from the bottom of the Dyer amphitheater to West Dyer to Dyer to Gemini to Sherman to Sheridan. Couldn't have asked for better weather in the midst of the monsoon. I'm also glad to have those peaks off my list since Iowa Gulch has to rank as among the least inspirational vistas in Colorado. Although, I guess it still beats the local views of the Maryland and Illinois cars I saw parked at the trailhead.

East Slopes from Fourmile Creek Trailhead  Sucess!

Spring was in the air on this awesome day. I didn't need my snowshoes for this one. I avoided snow whenever possible and blazed my own version of the route up the peak. I bumped into some cool folks who were unsuccesful at climbing Sherman (How do you fail on that one?) On the way down, the snow was melting on the road and was all mushy - post hole madness! I was regretting not bringing my snowshoes at this point. There is a bench made from rocks on the summit that is really cool, and inviting. What a day on the solo :)

Did this along with Dyer, Sherman, Gemini, Peerless and Horseshoe that day. Sheridan had the honor of being the steepest of the day.
