| A great time hiking the use trail and slabs up from Lodgepole with Sridhar of the Sierra Club and friends (including HikingBoots!). Silliman Lake offered a refreshing swim after the sunny climb from below. Took the southwest slope up from the nameless lake, which led to more boulders than the usual route (which we took down). Amazing views of the Sierra and beyond every direction. Swimmers' laughter echoed up from Little Lakes, where we could see their tents far below. This peak launched a two-day cross country ring around the Tokopah valley, east to the Tablelands, then south to Alta Peak before returning to Lodgepole. Didn't feel good about crossing the ridge of Silliman's neighbor with full packs on, so we descended the northernmost gully (class 2 with a single class 3 move) from Silliman's southeast col to the cirque above Crescent Lake. From there it was on to the lower Tablelands, slowly but surely over seldom-trodden rock. | ||

| People say silliman is a winter peak, but we took a group of beginner in the middle of the summer. We took some time on the slabs, but everyone made it safely. Ranger told me no camping along the silliman creek, so we had to go all the way to silliman lake to camp. It was very scenic by the lake though. | ||

| Nice way to spend the day - got pretty hot there on the slabs. Great (and windy!) views on top. CLEAR day - saw the coast range for once. | ||

| This was the first peak that I climbed in the Sierra and I loved it! The views were outstanding, the wildflowers were amazing on the way up there, and I especially loved the gnarly old foxtail pines that grow near the summit. I also enjoyed seeing the southernmost grove of Mountain Hemlock which grow below Silliman Lake. | ||

| After being thwarted by snowstorms in May, returned with same crew and summited during dayhike. Caught some hail while on the summit but no thunder, back down by about 5 PM. Good views partially obscured by smoke. | ||

| Pretty straight foward, amazing sunrise from summmit. Would highly recomend to beginner mountaineers. Did as an overnight gig but could be done in a day in the winter. | ||

| Very beautiful to find a chute and ascend up the north face. From Silliman creek it is not quite as beautiful, but easy for winter or spring. | ||

| Followed Silliman River. Easy, but a lot of fun. Accidentally summitted the smaller peak to the east, recognized our mistake and summitted Silliman all before the sunrise. | ||

| Hiked up the South Slope and then descended West down to the "Little Lakes" and worked over to Silliman Pass. From there I took the Twin Lakes trail back down. That loop made for a longer day than I expected. The brush and terrain between Silliman and Silliman Pass was a bit frustrating. The best part is the climb up the big slab to Silliman Lake. | ||

| An enjoyable warm-up hike for an ambitious attempt to day hike South Guard and Mt. Brewer the next day. (The South Guard-Brewer traverse looked much easier on the map than it did in person). Silliman is one of the easiest SPS peaks I've climbed to date. | ||

| Day hiked with Mike (mdostby), Will and a couple of Will's friends. Mike and I did all of the route finding. Snow line (as of May 31, 2003) was at 9200'. Did not need snowshoes, although poles were quite handy for balance and the occasional punch through the snow-covered slabs on the way to Silliman Lake. We had lunch by Silliman Lake, and then headed to the summit. Excellent 180-degree views from Mt Silliman's summit. The Great Western Divide stands out to the east. I could clearly see Mineral King peaks as well. In the register (green ammo box), there are entries that dated back to 1991. Last entry this year was on February 2003. We came down on the northern (right side going down) side of the slabs below Silliman Lake through talus fields down to the unnamed meadow as Will's friends felt uneasy going directly down the slabs (which we did on the way up). All in all, a great day. | ||
