Silverheels is such a cool mountain! The summit was great and the views were great too. My wife and I had clear skies and heavy wind, but it was a great 4th of July. I've done the East Ridge in the Winter and highly recommend it! Look for moose in the lower elevations below Little Baldy!

Nice Spring day. Snow was firm in the morning but very soft in the afternoon. Windy on top but not too cold. Heartbreak hill is well named and then you get to posthole though the gully all the way back to the car!

Took the standard summer route to avoid most of the snow. Gate was closed at 10360' to keep cars from getting stuck in the afternoon on the muddy road, making for a 13 mile day. Great views and the wind wasn't too bad.

Route Climbed: Beaver Ridge (West Ridge) Date Climbed: April 3, 2005  Sucess!

Nice day; not too windy, but lots of post-holing--even with snowshoes! Once on the actual ridge, however, the talus was completely wind-swept and made for a nice walk to the summit. Great views of the entire Tenmile & Mosquito ranges, as well as much of the Front Range.

This was a hard climb and the summit winds were BRUTAL. Great glissades though and the snow held up nicely for me on the descent. Heartbreak Hill is rough on the way out.

A long painful winter hike. It took us 9 hours and all the energy we had to make the summit. Postholed a large majority of the hike before we got to Silverheels and on the way back down. Tons of high wind. I ended up using a facemask and goggles for quite a while to block out the wind. The mountain itself is pretty dry but it's a pain getting there.

Route Climbed: Northwest Ridge to West Ridge Date Climbed: January 22, 2004  Sucess!

Lots of snow despite warm temps and wind. the valley between Beaver Ridge and Silverheels full of wast deep snow. Clear day with howling 50+mph winds up high and bone chilling cold. Could see nearly to the Wind River Range in WY and deep into the Sangre's to the south. Fun mountain with tons of views.

A nice hike up the expansive tundra of this mountain. It would make an excellent trip when the aspen leaves below are turning.

Ran into a guy named Jason at the trailhead. He turned out to be a real nice fellow. We climbed this mountain together and did not see any other hikers. The fresh snow and the puffy clouds made me feel like I was in the Himalayas!
