with Austin. stood on the highpoint of my home county in a gathering storm, descended a beautiful way trail to LOA. A fun, rigorous climb. Berries are great this time of year.

Weather good. Lots of view! Couldn't have made it to the top without my support team; Trina Leaf and Steve Lowrie. We took yayoubetcha's advice and used the right hand route up the summit block. We think it is the best way.
The abandoned road makes a good alternate for the first 1.5 miles of trail. It leaves the Hamma Hamma Road about 1/4 mile beyond the Putvin TH.

Beware of the final sentence of the route description (I have submitted a change).
At the end of the description for the approach, it says " take a left trending 3rd class groove up the summit spire. " Whereas this will take you to the top, as I examined it. There is an much easier route with much less exposure. I noticed one of the summit log entries talked about the exposure and the people decided not to summit.
A better route description:
As the trail ends at the summit block, you will notice a 3rd class grove (large enough to climb throgh) trending to the left; this approach will take you to the top, but has exposure. The easiest way up is to stand in front of the summit block and look to the right. You will also see a narrow groove (few inches) to the right, currently marked at the base with a large cairn. Take this route up. After the initial 15 feet, it gets much easier to the summit.

July climbing conditions in March! Not a lot of snow but enough to work with. The directions on this website proved to be dead-on. Couldn't have done it without them. Second time up. Took 4 friends of wildly varying ability levels. Got'em all up and down.

Glad to finally get on top of this one!!! Probably the best climb I've ever done! One of the coolests parts was unexpectedly finding a summit box on top (The first one I've come across in the Olympics).By reading the log we were the first to summit this year but I doubt thats true. Weird and Chachie chachie I wish you could of been there!

Great Climb! we came 50 ft short of the summit. Not sure if we approached the block right. Ran out of time. Last 50 ft very exposed and a huge drop off. Hope to try again this winter or spring!!!

As part of my quest to visit the highest points in each of Washington's counties, I invited my friends Dennis and Duane to make an attempt on Stone (Mason County highpoint). It was a fabulous day, too warm if anything, with clear air and perfect climbing conditions - lots of snow on the approach to the summit ridge. Nice climb!
