Mt Tallac Hike  Sucess!

Almost no snow! Some icy spots but a mostly straightforward hike up to the summit. Beautiful warm weather and conditions for January. Bring on the snow though!

Lakes & Meadow Route  Sucess!

Up via the lakes. I have never seen so many mosquitoes in the Tahoe area before. Summit was fun and very relaxing, especially with the views. Came down the south face on an old trail.

few times  Sucess!

I did Tallac 3 times in 2011 by a variety of routes. Twice by myself early in the season. The first time was particularly interesting as the snow was soft and deep.... rather than postholing i was pylon holing :). The last time was later in the year with a friend and the flowers were a nice addition - the mosquitoes were not.

Mount Tallac  Sucess!

Phil & I had a wonderful day hiking Tallac on Thursday! Hiking mid-week was great because there were not as many people out on the trail and on the peak. Annie, our very friendly mutt, joined us, greeted everyone she met, made many friends, and did quite well considering this was her first summit!

Tallac, Dicks & Jacks traverse  Sucess!

Nice hike and great views on E side of Crystal Range with quite a bit of snow still lingering from previous week's storm. Pretty windy but it only made it bearable; very hot when calm.

Tahoe classic  Sucess!

Not 100% sure of the date of my climb, but it was Summer 2008... got and early start and was done by lunch.

Sunny Day  Sucess!

Couldn't ask for a nicer day. I left the trailhead around 7:45. I had the summit to myself. I got off the main trail a couple of times as snow drifts obscured the direct route. Passed a lot of people on the way up on my decent.

Awesome View as Always!  Sucess!

There were still many snowfields to hike through, including one dangerous one near the top of this ridge (on the north facing side of course). The footsteps were deep, but it was quite scary. On the way down, we ended up walking on the boulders to get past that one snowfield. Otherwise, the view from the top is always spectacular! Oh and bring your bug spray and anti itch stick! The mosquitoes were relentless on the way up and back down.

Still a lot of snow  Sucess!

Fantasic weather. Was planing to do Dicks Peak, however the PCT was still covered with snow all the way up to Dicks Pass. So took a detour to Mt. Tallac instead

First time under heavy smoke, this time under clouds. Will I ever get that million dollar view of Tahoe?

Great Turns  Sucess!

Great corn skiing up high. Taters from the beginning of sweat hill on down. Road is getting pretty lean in terms of coverage- a lotta damn work pulling it back to the car.

Summitted with Travis Hesse. 3 hours.

Cathedral Lake route from Tallac trailhead  Sucess!

I loved it. Beautiful all the way up, and world class views of Tahoe from the summit. Watch out for assertive marmots!

Party included Lynda (aka Zarathustraswife), her brother Danny and his wife Kellie. Conditioning for Half Dome.

"Fatigue plus loose talus equals broken ankle." Fortunately this didn't happen to anyone in our party, but I kept thinking it over and over in my head on the way down.

Conditioning for Half Dome   Sucess!

Did this hike with my husband, brother, and sister-in-law. The elevation gain was good training for Half Dome which we did in August 2010. Challenging hike, but the views at the top were amazing.

2x  Sucess!

Planned on Cross Couloir, but avy conditions and cornices at the top led us to go up a chute further right to the ridge. Great day with great views. Also climbed it on Sep 30, 2006.
