Spring Creek, Bowl Direct  Sucess!

Hiked Spring Creek Road. Approach through forest and manzanita to the foot of the bowl wasn't that bad. Wasn't able to gain the NE ridge due to low snow coverage. Hiked directly up bowl, super tiring but made it. Snowboard ride down through untracked soft corn snow was amazing. Hike from the foot of the bowl to car was horrendous. North Ridge via Cascade Lake  Sucess!

Climbed this route with a team of seven from the Bayview trailhead. Steep and direct and has some fun class 2-3 scrambling along the way. To make it even more interesting we parked a few cars at Spring Creek road and descended the NE ridge after we reached the top. About a 7.5 mile round trip.

Mount Tallac Trail  Sucess!

Georgous autumn colours, a cute little black bear just 5 metres beside the trail and spectacular views over Lake Tahoe... what else do you want

Mt. Tallac Summit  Sucess!

I will start by saying this is a moderately difficult climb. Much tougher than Freel Peak, Jobs Sister, or Mt. Rose. However, the lower elevation does help, and it really isn't that tough if you take away a couple of steep sections and the last 1/4 mile to the summit. I did this hike with a group of 8 other people (6 women) and it took anywhere from 3 to 4.5 hours to reach the top for this group. The views along the way and at the summit are as good as any peak I have been on in the Tahoe Basin (which is 14 out of the 19 prominent peaks). The views back into the Desolation Wilderness are excellent, as you can see several peaks and many many lakes. If you want to pick one good hike in the Tahoe Basin...this one won't disappoint. The trailhead is just 1 mile off highway 89 directly opposite Baldwin Beach.

Made it  Sucess!

The first time I tried was the year before, and didn't make it because of weather issues. I made it the second time. My second SPS peak.

Two different hiking routes  Sucess!

Have done the Mt. Tallac trail as well as Glen Alpine. The road to Glen Alpine is kind of a joke. VERY popular hike, but the views from the top justify it. The Tallac trail is shorter, Glen Alpine more scenic.

with dicks peak  Sucess!

Done as loop with dicks peak. Sensational views!!! The tame marmots and chipmunks were in abundance on the summit.

Ugh  Sucess!

Parked on 89 at the Mt. Tallac Trailhead entrance, and huffed over to Spring Creek. Had a miserable solo ascent up the NE Ridge. Wrong time of year for this route + low snow. Had to carefully pick my way up the mountain avoiding VERY thick brush and soft, spotty snow. Eventually made it off the dirt onto snow, but every step up sunk 50% back down the rest of the way. Summited and descended the long way around via Mt. Tallac Trail.

Favorite hike  Sucess!

No way to describe the beautiful views from the trailhead all the way to the top. Head up the mountain early when the lakes along the way are perfectly still! Hiked with mebo1126.

Up Early  Sucess!

Great hike but it was good to have started at the trailhead at 7:00 and reached the summit around 10:00 as some thunderstorms developed very quickly right around noon and the rain followed soon after. The forecast was for a 30% chance of rain after 3pm, so remember that things can change up there. Great views from the top in the morning and remains a great overall hike. A couple very aggressive chipmunks around the summit :)

Second time  Sucess!

First time hiking the peak in five years, forgot how relentless the hike is from Cathedral Lake to the summit. The chipmunks on the summit are frigging nuts, like little kamikaze bombers taking shots at your lunch. There is a large marmot family on top now too. Disappointed that there is no summit register but the views are fantastic as usual.

Beautiful Climb  Sucess!

Gorgeous climb. Very scenic. Shouldn't be underestimated, however. Plenty of water+hiking poles+good shoes+map=important. Trail is not well marked near the summit. It's a rocky climb, especially near the top where you scramble up large metamorphic rocks. Incredible view from the summit. Overall, a fun climb and a great time.

Sort of on the Glen Alpine trail  Sucess!

Started at the Glen Alpine trailhead- Gilmore Lake was still mostly frozen and the trail was mostly obscured by snowpack.
