Red Dot Trail  Sucess!

The trail packed some serious elevation gain for NJ. Roughly forty minutes to the last and highest overlook. The highest point is an unremarkable bench of bedrock slab in the blueberry bushes well away from the trail past the Blue Dot Trail intersection.

Larvitour Side Trip  Sucess!

The Delaware high point was a little disappointing, so I took a detour through the Water Gap on my way to High Point, NJ. There were great views all the way up the red-blazed Tammany Trail and just enough scrambling to keep things interesting. I made it to the top a little before sunset, then headed down... and saw my very first bear along the way! New Jersey's wilder than I expected.

Mind the Gap  Sucess!

Combined Mount Tammanay and Mount Minsi to make a nice dayhike. This is a fun little hike if you can handle the crowds. It's about as much mountain fun as you'll find in PA/NJ!

1st AT mountain  Sucess!

I went 6.8 miles north on the AT, then returned around Sunfish Pond and back on the AT to the Blue Dot trail, up Tammany, and down the Red Dot Trail, 16.5 miles total.

training grounds  Sucess!

Great little hike if you run up it. Just wish there were some real mountains out here... sigh. Awesome camping fun during snow and ice storms though

Highs and Lows of Summiting  Sucess!

High - Made the summit no problem, up & down, with Barney. Took the Blue Trail as it would be easier on his paws.
Low - Lost backpack with all personal and hiking items. Think I left it on back rack of truck and it fell off when relocating to Mt. Minsi trailhead.

Tammany trail...  Sucess!

1st climbed in '07... and have been hiking / training here since..

Sure... it's only 1000 ft up... but it's the closest thing to a real mountain you'll find in NJ.

If you take the Red-dot trail (my standard training ground) you get to climb that 1000' in ~ 1 mile. (If you want more elevation - just do laps!)

one of my first  Sucess!

When I was maybe five years old and I am 43 now I hiked Mt Tammany with my father and brother when we lived in East Stroudsburg, PA. With Mt Pocono it was my first times in the mountains that after we moved west led to a lifetime love of the peaks. I remember the hike and lots of trees on top. I think I got a little tired being I had yet to build up my mountain legs. I remember the creek in the forest and it being a very lush and green forest. I am really reaching to sign this climbers log, I am trying to find every peak I have done that is on Summitpost, I am going to have to make more pages to up my peak count on this site, I was hoping to at least get to 100. I see some folks have 5 or 6 hundred, Wow I've got many years to get that far.

Overnight trip  Sucess!

Hiked up and camped overnight on top with outing club friends, back in the day before there were so many regulations. Great place to hang out and relax with views of the river.

Short fun trail  Sucess!

You get a nice view of the Delaware river and Mount Minsi on the summit. The Red Dot trail is rocky and steep, which makes it a bit more challenging than the Blue blaze trail.

Gap  Sucess!
