Hey it's great to see Mt. Washakie up here. Washakie (more accurately, the trail up to Washakie Pass) was the site of one of my closest calls to date. I was hiking the Winds with two mates as my bachelor party trip in 2004. The weather turned foul while we camped at Valentine Lake, so we decided to try to push up and over Washakie Pass and out to Big Sandy in a day. Above treeline, the wind was howling and the rain was turning to sleet and snow. It took everything we had to crest the pass and the remaining eleven miles of hiking were some of the least fun I've ever done.

Live and learn. I'd love to go back in better weather. It's an amazing place!

Thanks for the message, and that's a cool story all of us can relate to. I thin every one of us has had one or two or more experiences with nasty, frightening weather well above treeline. I know I've had mine.

If you feel like it, tell the story as a TR and add it to the page.
