Who hasn't done it?  Sucess!

I've been up Washburn several times as a tourist, park employee and general peak bagger.

Glacier Boulder Route  Sucess!

Started my hike from the Glacier Boulder Trailhead in Canyon on a sunny July day, 2005. Nice views of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone from the north rim on the first mile. Passed by Washburn Hot Springs after 3 1/2 miles. After 5 miles the trail gains all of it elevation in the last 3 miles to the summit. Hiking up to the ridge was a real lung buster. Didn't see another hiker, which I enjoy, until I reached the lookout structure. After lunch on the tower, I hiked the 8 miles back to Canyon. Really nice, on the not often used trail. If you want to avoid the crowds on a long day hike up to Washburn, I'd recomend starting from the Glacire Boulder trailhead in Canyon.

Great for All Three  Sucess!

I've hiked this trail once, but skied it a couple of times. Once from the Canyon/Dunraven side, and once from Tower Junction. I've also skied the southern slopes along Dunraven Pass without summiting a few times. This is the place I made my first real telemark turn.

Route Climbed: via the Road Date Climbed: June 2002, July 25th 2002  Sucess!

First time I did it with the crew that would define that year and the crew that became Grand Teton...and was our finest moment. 2nd time, I borrowed a bike from Charlie and rode it from Canyon to the trail and then kinda walked for the most part as it got steep on the road, hung around for a bit, was a little windy and then got on the bike and sped past all those families with kids walking up...what a thrill ride and a curvy ride too.

I figured I should do this since it's the tallest in the park. I was hoping to see a Grizzly, but no luck. Incredibly easy with nice views

Very stormy, but we reach the summit. Back at the car and drive to the north we have the adventure of Yellowstone wildlife: 3 black bears an one grizzly in one hour!

I remember this was very first summit hiking as a child. I recall thinking hiking on a road was odd, but the view was absolutely spectacular!

It was a lot of fun visiting with the lookout volunteers upon reaching the summit. Bring a lunch (and a bottle of wine..) and some optics to watch for wildlife.

Route Climbed: Washburn Summit Trail from Canyon Date Climbed: June 23 2004  Sucess!

Hiked from the "Grand Canyon of Yellowstone" up to Mt Washburn. Total trail distance of about 18 miles. The top still had some snow on it. To my knowledge we were the only people on the trail that day, although some others took the short trail to the summit.

Beautiful, if busy, hike from the Grand Loop Road in Yellowstone National Park. From the trail you can see Yellowstone Canyon and if you know where to look, the Tetons to the south.

Good hike. We ran into a grizzly on the trail on the way down. No harm done - we saw him first, he saw us...then he ran.

Great panorama from the top! Didn't see any wildlife that day, but I've seen grizzlies right at the pass and on the northern side of the peak since. Keep a keen eye out for bears when hiking this peak.

Awesome easy hike with great views all directions . My 12 yo daughters first 10K peak ...saw a herd of mountain goats. Enjoyed the lookout tower since the winds were constantly blowing 50 + mph . Theres a summit register inside , note how many people from all over the world visit Yellowstone and hike this peak .

Route Climbed: THE ROAD Date Climbed: July 1999  Sucess!

Next time I'll ski up it in winter, or Mtn. bike it in the summer. Still, the views are sublime, and help one orient to the whole Yellowstone/Teton area. But an even better hike is Avalanche peak, just outside the park boundary.
