| Powerfully windy at top - almost knocked me over. Much of view obscured by smoke from Cygnet, Range, Dewdrop and Dewdrop II fires. | ||

| I took the Chittenden Road route. From the summit I could see the Tetons, Beartooths, etc. I also saw some bighorn sheep. A fun mountain to hike. | ||

| About a quarter to half mile of snow on the trail towards the top, but it was soft enough to just walk over with not problem. Nice hike. | ||

| Took the Dunraven Pass side. Good for a quote trip and change of pace from everything else Yellowstone has to offer. Saw some good wildlife also - goats, marmot and just missed the big horns. | ||

| We used the Chittenden Road route, which was clear in late June in a heavy snow year; the other route still had 3 feet of snow. Temps in low/mid-50s, winds about 30-35 mph on the top, with fantastic views all around, including the Tetons. | ||

| Did this midday, hardly an ideal time due to crowds, to kill a few hours between lodge nights at Roosevelt and Lake. Nice views, but can't say I really enjoyed it because of all the people. With family or friends, it would have been more enjoyable under the circumstances, or I should have gone up very early in the morning. But it was better than no mountain at all. | ||

| Had a wonderful time. It was very windy at the summit but still enjoyed what is perhaps the best view of the park. Sadly no wildlife to see but did hear wapiti bugling off in the distance. No its not a mountaineering feet to reach this summit, but it is worth the short amount of time to do. Enjoy! | ||

| Day Hiker | Dunraven Pass Trail ![]() Date Climbed: Jul 15, 2010 | |
| Excellent day with very clear sky, so great views of everything, including the Tetons. DayHikerJr hiked most of the way up and down without being carried, which is good because he is getting too big for that. I'm really glad I didn't get stuck carrying him for the entire 7 miles round-trip. We had some close-up views of a female grizzly and two cubs near the road afterward. Thanks to this hike for bringing us to the Dunraven Pass area at the right time, because all three bears came within 20 feet of our car which was stopped on the shoulder when they walked by, grazing on the plants near the road. Earlier, a fox carrying several dead rodents in its mouth ran right by us on the (wide) trail, trotting up the trail as we were hiking down. It was rather odd. I managed to get the whole thing on video. | ||

| The last time I was on top of Washburn was with my brother many years back. We watched the sunset on a perfectly calm evening from the comfort of a heated room, incredible. This last memorial day my wife and I saw some huge grizzlies high up on the peak from the Dunraven Pass road. Bring your pepper spray. | ||

| Not one of my favorite hikes to say the least. Hiking up a road with a lot of people is not really my thing but due to time constraints and non-hiking traveling companions it was the only option I had. Good views and saw some cool wildlife. | ||
