tuckerman  Sucess!

cheers to those ambitious appalachian hikers and there history of not wasting any time getting up the mountain by using those silly switchbacks. straight to the top, baby! switchbacks do have their place...just not so much in the applachians. beautiful weather turning to downpour back to beautiful in a matter of seconds. crazy place, that Mount Washington.

Route Climbed: Lion's Head

Very icy in sections up to tree line. I had to turn back at the Upper Lion's Head with one of our guides and another team member. I did not have the stamina to complete the climb, although I had worked hard to prepare. I handled the weather much better than I would have expected and truly enjoyed the experience dispite needing to turn back.

Summited in under 2.5 hours, went up the right gully of the ravine. The sky was completely clear and weather was amazing. We descended the Boot Spur trail to make a great climb.

A great Presidents Day summit. -4 on top, 50-75Mphs winds, wind chill around -30. Clouds opened a bit on decent, beautiful day. Route: Pinkham Notch / Tuckerman / Lions Head.

Climbed with the Summit Fox  Sucess!

Alpine start with Summit Fox joining us in the Pinkham Notch parking lot. He took off before us and left us a trail of prints up to the summit. Snow was knee to thigh deep in areas as we broke trail to summit. On top was -2 (approx) w/26mph winds. Another phenomenal day on Mt W in the winter.

Finally Made It !!  Sucess!

A couple previous trips up to the White Mtns were cancelled. We finally got a 4 day window in the schedule and drove up from Western PA.

Got a late start (9:30-10ish) due to morning drizzle. My 12 and 14 year old sons both made it up Ammonoosuc trail to the top, but only the 14 year old was up to tackling Tuckerman Ravine trail back down. Younger son went back down in the Van with Mom and little sis (one advantage of the road to the top-well that and the chili in the cafeteria).
Long day, but well worth it !!!

Route Climbed: Lions Head Date Climbed: March 4, 2004  Sucess!

I had hiked up to the Lions Head before but wanted to summit. With a good window I would feel comfortable soloing but I don't know the mountain. I decided to go with EMS and we overnighted in the observatory. We caught reasonably good conditions. Overcast midway up to the Lions Head but low wind. Solo dayhiked up the Air-Line the next day but reach my turnaround time at the treeline. Met some Germans headed up while I was headed down. They didn't look equipped for an overnight. I pictured the wife cursing (in German) to her husband as darkness fell while they were still on trail. I wish I had rented snowshoes.

Route Climbed: up -Tuckerman, down - Lion Head Date Climbed: July 2003  Sucess!

Left Sunday morning at 8:00am returned at 5:30. Met a lot of great people on the way up and down. 80 at Pinkham notch lodge, about 40 at the peak. Don't waste much time at the top, too many people, many of whom drove or rode the train.
