Route Climbed: Blueberry Ledge Trail Kate Sleeper Trail Date Climbed: September 1999
Climbed up the blueberry ledge trail to the summit and then traversed the ridge to the East Sleeper to tag that summit for the 100 highest in NE. That trail is longer than you would think and the Sleeper has absolutely nothing for views off the top and is a real "Sleeper" hehe.

The weather was gorgeous when I conquered this peak. The steep ledges near the top are not for the faint of heart. There are obvious holes where the rungs used to be, but they have somehow disappeared and left hikers to fend for themselves. As a rock climber I had a good time. But they are definately not easy to scramble up. Poles can help sometimes, but often just get in the way. There are some great views along the way up. I wouldn't want to attempt the ledges going down.
A word of advice for those working on your 4000s, the true summit of Whiteface is off the trail heading over to Passaconaway. The top ledge is not "it." So, if you are a stickler for the truth, keep going towards Passaconaway in order to bag the true summit.

Overcast but otherwise a fine day. Final ledge on BBL trail very slippery (two inches of wet snow); another party took about ten minutes getting up it while we were stopped for lunch.

Route Climbed: from Trip. and over the Sleepers Date Climbed: 6/26/98Long day hike- scary going up the slide, at least for me at that time. Good way to get over your fear of heights.
