Got a bit off route due to huge snowdrifts, but turned out to be a great snowclimb. Postholing on the way back was heinous.

We were really getting in shape at this point in the season during super-dry 2002, reaching Yale's summit in great time. From the top, we had a bird's-eye view of the freshly erupted Hayman Fire, which formed a towering plume to the east. A sobering sight.

This was actually my second time up. But I was helping at an aid station in North Cottonwood Creek during the now-deceased Nolan's 14 run...and maybe I shouldn't say this because the CMC might get on my @$$ for this (but I will anyways), so we followed the race course up the west ridge of Mount Yale - where there is no trail across the tundra and rockslopes to the summit. No storms - great day!

Climbed Yale via Southwest Slopes Route under perfect fall conditions with the Aspens at their peak. Bluebird skies, little wind, no crowds, three hours to the summit. Fun scramble if you stay on the highest point/ridge to the top from the saddle. Nice peak hike.

Summer to winter in a couple hours. I certainly didn't have the right gloves for this foray into the mountains. The wind was fierce! Just enough snow that the 2 people ahead of me turned back between 13,500-14,000 ft, but it is melting fast. Made this summit although I cancelled the rest of my trip.

My first summit in the Collegiate Peaks. Terrific climb, took the harder scramble to the summit to the left of the false summit(great fun, but did not exactly impress myself with my routefinding skills!). Very impressive false summit.

winter conditions, fun climb! We got lost on the way down in some heavy weather, so it turned into a long hike.

Used the dispersed camping area across from the Avalanche parking lot and took on trail at Denny Creek at 6:30. Clear sky, beautiful day all the way to the summit which took me long 4 and 1/2 hrs to reach. Upper portion of the trail below the Boulderfield was steeper than anticipated and I would not consider this mountain one of the easier Fourteeners at all. Shorter to hike yes, but not easier! Grand view of Mt.Princeton to the South from the summit ; Mt.Columbia/Mt.Harvard and Three Apostles to the North among others obviously. Gorgeous views of even Pikes Peak in the distance. Descended at 12:30 and got hit by hail above timberline, then heavy rainfall all the way to the bottom. Several people up there from out of State with no gear at all. DON"T DO THAT!! Going up into a black cloudy sky.....waiting for the clouds to go away....DON"T DO THAT! Overall a great hike. Poles very helpful for this hike but a burden in the Boulderfield. I didn't mind the rain once in the trees. It felt good and cooled me off. Great day to be on Mt.Yale!

Yale was O.K. It was easy. I remember being on the summit and wishing that I would have come up from the east ridge and the Avalanche Gulch TH. It look more scenic then the standard route. It definately looked to have less people as well. because of the paved road to the TH, you get a lot of people as well.

Went up with my buddy Z on a 2-day tour-de-force that also included Mt. Princeton. On the way up there was sunshine mixed with rain, while it started raining & storming by the time we got above timberline. We managed to make it up, however, & had a good time.

My father and I climbed this one and had the whole mountain to ourselves. Fall colors were at their peak and there was a light dusting of snow on the ground. A nice day.

I made it to the trailhead at 7:30. I knew that this would be a steep hike because it was only 3 ½ miles to the summit. The trail went up right at the beginning for only a couple hundred feet or so. Then it flattened out and the trail followed Denny Creek. After about ¾ mile of steady slopes was the first uphill part of the hike. It was 800 feet of vertical in about a half mile. There were numerous switchbacks and the trail led me out of the timber to the tundra. The trail let up a bit but it was still quite a hike. Looking ahead I could see about a half mile in front of me a steep trail that lead up to the saddle. Once at the steep part it was full of switchbacks and I made my way up. This was the toughest part of the day. Once at the saddle it was another 600’ to the summit although not as hard as the trail up to the saddle. It was steep and was nothing but a boulder field.

I only spent about five minutes on the summit and the main reason for that was that I went on a Wednesday and I only saw six people all day. I knew that there was only one person behind me. So I didn’t want to be out there all alone. On the way down I saw a Red Columbine and from what I understand they are uncommon in our state.

I believe it was a good hike. It had its more difficult parts but I just took my time and made it.

I don't remember too much about this mountain except that I must not have been in very good shape as it seemed like the last mile took forever. I do remember the very nice views from the top and the astonishment that I actually made it. Since I grew up right next to Yale University - I was happy to summit it's mountain namesake.

In a shroud of clouds we made the summit. Up and back in 6 hours. It was cold and windy for an August morning.
