Overview

Assiniboine
Mount Assiniboine

Assiniboine is one of Canada's most striking mountains. Often compaired to the Matterhorn. The most common route is by the North Ridge or normal route.(5.5) Usual time is 6-7 hours but it has been done in less. The north face route is not much different to the North Ridge route.(5.5). The hard route is the East face. Lots of rock falls so cold temperatures are a must. A member of the infamous 5.9 A2 class of alpine climbs. Spring and fall are the best times for this route. East buttress (5.7).

Getting There

Assiniboine
Mount Assiniboine

There are several ways to enter the area. Here are a couple. I will add the others when I have better information.
Make your way to Calgary, Alberta, then to Canmore Alberta,This part of Assinaboine Provincial Park cannot be reached by car. Either take a helicopter about 160 Cdn. each way$$$ (the fastest) or walk or mountain bike the 18 miles. (Note Bryant Creek and over Assiniboine Pass are now closed to mountain bikes) As helicopters are only allowed to land on certain days of the week. (Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and certain Holiday Mondays) contact Canmore Helicopers or Canadian Helicopers in Canmore, Alberta for more information.

Permits are not necessary but in the there is an overnight cabin fee if you stay at the campground. Pay the wardin at Lake Magog. If you approach from Banff national park you will have the National park fee to deal with if you overnight in Bryant Creek.

Helicopters fly on three days of the week Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Plus sometimes on Monday on long weekends.

Alpine Club of Canada

Above the red band on...
Mount Assiniboine
Joining a club such as The Alpine Club of Canada is recommended when climbing in Canada. While it is not obligatory, useful information can be had at any of their Clubhouse in Canmore, or at their website which is open to everyone.

http://www.alpineclubofcanada.ca/

Staying at the club in Canmore is 15$ Canadian for members and 19$ for non-members. It can get quite crowded in the summer so a reservation is recommended.

Children

Children

Children refers to the set of objects that logically fall under a given object. For example, the Aconcagua mountain page is a child of the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits.' The Aconcagua mountain itself has many routes, photos, and trip reports as children.
