This is a very beautiful cone. Stands over the Atitlán's lake in Sololá, is one of the most pictured volcanos in the world because of it's beauty and the view from Panajachel (a village besides the lake) that is really visited by tourists. This volcano has two other brothers, the Tolimán Volcano and Atitlán Volcano. San Pedro is the smallest brother. The peak is really accessible and is not really visited. It has different camping spots, the best are in the border of the crater. It has a really deep crater, it has never been determined the height of it. The route is easy, a walk up route, but it is really direct to the summit, has not too many curves. You can secure guides at San Pedro la Laguna. It's really important to do that because the route has a lot of trails that take you to other mountains or to nowhere, also because there are some roberies, but if you go with a guide it's harder to get robbed.

Getting There

You can go from Guatemala to Panajachel by bus, or by car, taking the CA 1 road to México, then detour at a place called "Los Encuentros" to Sololá, where you have to leave to Panajachel, from there you have to take a boat to San Pedro la Laguna, where you contact, in the dock, a guide.

No, only hire a guide, to be sure about the trail, and secure from the robbers.

When To Climb

It's easy to climb always, but you must take a raincoat. The best months are from late october to early april.

Camping

There are two that I know from the middle to the top. One is in the very opening of the crater, if it is dry, there can be settled 3 or 4 tents (depending of the size of them), and in the very top is another one, it's better, but a bit smaller.
