Overview
A classic Santa Ana mountain climb with some of the best views in the range. The hike is 9.5 miles round trip with about 2150' elevation gain.
Getting There
Take the Ortega Highway from the San Diego Freeway at San Juan Capistrano. Drive East 19 1/2 miles to the paved parking area across from the Ortega Oaks store. The store is just about 1/2 mile past the "Upper San Juan Campground", and you really cannot miss it. The parking lot entrance is just across the street from the store.
Red Tape
Cleveland National Forest: National Forest Advenuture Pass is required.
When To Climb
October through May is best, since summer can be very hot in the Santa Ana mountains.
