OverviewThis beautiful mountain is easily viewed from Highway 9 just south of Alma. When I lived in the area in the mid 90's it was a constant reminder of the coming spring. As the Wave would fill in with snow I began to look forward to steeper backcountry skiing and warmer temps. This 13ner isn't high but standing on its own has a presence that captures the eye and this soul's imagination. Easy year-round access also make this mountain great. However due to the large scale of mining in the area DO NOT DRINK THE WATER
Getting ThereFrom Alma on Highway 9 Head south roughly 2 Miles to the Mosquito Gulch Road (Park County 12). Turn Right/West. Or from the Junction of Highways 285 and 9 drive north for a little less than 5 miles Turn Left/West. Head up the road roughly 4.5 miles to a junction. At the junction take the right and continue a little more than a mile to another junction. This is the trailhead. Park your car here. The road leading Left/South leads to the American Mill. This will help you know where you are on the map.
Red TapeNone. Check with the ranger about fire bans.
When To ClimbThe North Face is climbable year-round and makes for easy scrambling. Spring snow season is the time for the Wave. If you plan to ski, an early start is advised. The sun hits this peak at sunrise so time your corn accordingly. Avalanches are common on the wave and spring consolidation is crucial to a safe ascent/descent.
CampingCamping is allowed however there is a fair amount of private/corporate land in the area. Choose your campsite carefully. You might consider going further up the road to a fork in the road that leads up Mosquito Pass.
