Overview

PAGE UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Top Notch Peak is located within Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming's Absaroka Range. Despite its proximity to Sylvan Pass and millions of visitors each year, the peak is infrequently climbed. The easiest route is steep class 2. The namesake notch is easily visible when traveling from west to east up Sylvan Pass. The views from the summit are outstanding, with Yellowstone Lake to the west and the wild Absaroka's and Thorofare region to the south and east.

Getting There

The easiest access to the peak is from Sylvan Pass and the trailhead for Avalanche Peak. This is located on Yellowstone's East Entrance road between the park gate and Fishing Bridge.

Red Tape

There is a $20 entry fee to Yellowstone National Park. The East Entrance road is open from the first Friday of May through the first Sunday in November.

When To Climb

July to September, summer, is the normal climbing season. Spring or late fall attempts would be reasonable with proper gear.

Camping

Camping is allowed, for a fee, at designated camp grounds within the park. More information can be found at the NPS website.

Mountain Conditions

The National Park Service is probably the only bet for current conditions.
