Overview

Spectre Peak along with Tensor (Aqua Benchmark) and Dyadic Peaks are three peaks located in the rugged Coxcomb Mountains in the eastern portion of Joshua Tree National Park. Out of the three peaks Spectre Peak is climbed the most often.

If someone has a good photo of Spectre that I can use for the signature photo, please let me know. My shots of the peak were not taken in the best light and with a new camera that I'm trying to learn how to use.

Getting There

From Twentynine Palms drive 41 miles east on Highway 62 to a gated sandy road heading southeast toward the Coxcomb Mountains. The gate marks the boundary of Joshua Tree National Park and driving is no longer allowed past the gate into the park. There's plenty of room to park in the pull-out next to the gate along Highway 62.

Red Tape

Permits are not required.

When To Climb

November to April is the best time to climb Spectre Point. The temperatures during the summer months are extremely warm.

Camping

If you are sleeping in your vehicle you could probably just pull off Highway 62 and sleep at near the starting point for the hike.
