Overview

The Sint Christoffelberg is the highest peak of the lower Netherlands Antilles. It is not very hard to climb but gives you a very nice view over the the island. This peak is located on Curacao, the largest island of the 6 dutch antilles.

Getting There

You can go to the Christoffel Park with public transport but before you arrive the park will be closed.
Best thing to do is rent a car and drive to the so called "Band'Abou" (the west side of the island). At the village Barber you follow the directions to the park (see map). It's a very nice trip as this part of the island is not very populated.

Stop at "Landhuis Savonet" (former plantation house) this is the visitor center for the park.

There are two starting points for climbing Christoffel. When taking the first at the visitor center, you will also pass the second at the parking-place near the foot of the hill. The latter can also be reached by car by taking a shortcut, called the route of the mountaineers.

At a slow pace it will take you about half an hour to reach the parking-place on foot. From there you'll need another hour to reach the summit. Back and forth will take about three hours. We strongly recommend that you start as early as possible to avoid the heat. The more so, because the footpath lies on the leeward side of the hill.

Red Tape

No permits are required, you only have to pay an entrance fee to the Christoffel Park, a reservate that's being taken care of by CARMABI.

When To Climb

All year but avoid the hottest hours! Best time to start is around 10.00 AM. Make sure that you bring enough water and head cover to protect you from the burning sun.
Opening time of the park is Mo-Sat 08.00-16.00 hrs. and Sun 06.00-15.00 hrs.

Camping

Camping is not possible. There are a lot of hotels, resorts and lodges all over the island.
