OverviewCunningham Mountain is the highest point in the Dome Rock Mountains. This prominent desert peak rises above the desert about ten miles southwest of Quartzite. Often overshadowed by the nearby Signal Peak, Cunningham Mountain is a mostly unknown mountain. Perhaps its only notable characteristic is prominence. With a prominence of 2,136', it’s just big enough to make an appearance on the Arizona Prominence Map. A steep jeep road leads to the summit of Cunningham Mountain, where a radio tower facility is located.
Getting ThereThere are two ways to reach Cunningham Mountain. The best access route is as follows: From Quartzite, drive about eight miles south on US 95 to an unmarked dirt road that parallels a power line. Turn right, and drive west about seven miles to the turnoff to Cunningham Mountain near Copper Bottom Mine. If you have a 4WD vehicle, you might be able to drive all the way to the top if the gate isn’t locked.
