Buchstein is a craggy summit of the forested Bavarian pre-alps. It is a popular hiking destination because of the commanding view, the charming Tegernseer Hütte 100 meters below the summit, and the several rock climbs available on it's flanks. Note that to attain the actual summit you need to scramble up a gully with rock climbing to Grade II. The rocks therein are extremely polished, but offer asthetically rounded and secure handholds.Getting ThereFrom Tegernsee travel south on the main road to Kreuth. Continue south, and the road turns west (signed B307), and you come to a parking lot called Bayerwald south of the summit.
Hike up the steep trail, which finally emerges from the trees at a small meadow. Climb over Roßstein via a small klettersteig or around the peak on easier trail, following signs to Tegernseer Hütte. The summit is a grade II scramble, starting from the W.C. on the side of the hut.
Red TapeNo red tape.
CampingThe Tegernseer Hütte offers sleeping accomodation. I don't know if camping is allowed or not. Probably not. External Links* The Tegernseer Hütte - serves food and has overnight accomodation. Maybe a great place to take the family. Images
