Becca d'Aouille is a series of giant walls steps which dominate the tiny and gracious village of Valgrisenche. Becca d'Aouille is not an important summit belonging to Valgrisenche circus (Rutor, Grand Sassiere, Grand Rousse, Ormelune, Rabuigne ... and so on ...), because is not on the western watershed of the valley.
This summit is very panoramic on other Valgrisenche tops, but is almost hidden by the powerful rocky-iced SE flank of
Rutor. From a geographic point of view can be considered a minor summit: for high experienced-trekker absolutely no!
On its East flank, in the 90ies, the longest Via Ferrata of Val d'Aosta was built: about 1000 mt of vertical development, 1350 mt total length, 1300 mt of hard-steel-cable, 1850 iron steps (and, of course, 3700 holes to fix them in the rock!), are the impressive numbers of this unique titanic work, carried out by Valgrisenche Mountains Guides, in loving memory of their companions Piero Bethaz and Claudio Bovard.
For not equipped hikers (for Via Ferrata!), there are two trails, to get over this lovely summit. One from La Bethaz village, 2,5 kms before arriving at Valgrisenche village. The second easy way, is to descent from Rifugio degli Angeli' (was Rifugio Scavarda before being destroyed by fire), and join the trai from La Bethaz for the last 10 minutes.
