Overview

Cima di Val di Roda lies in the central sector of Pale di San Martino, between Campanile di Val di Roda and Cima di Ball. It shows a wonderful W wall, 700 meters high, facing Val Cismòn and very visible from San Martino di Castrozza. It's the highest summit of that group of towers and pinnacles that includes ( from N to S and from the lowest to the highest ) Torre Felicita m 2244, Pala di San Bartolomeo m 2516, Corno Smith m 2500, Torre Bèttega m 2560, Campanile Adele m 2670, Campanile di Castrozza m 2750, and Campanile di Val di Roda m 2767. All these towers are gone up by many beatiful and fun climbs, because the rock is very good. But the most interesting and beatiful one is no doubt the route opened in 1921 by G. Langes and K. Hennemann, that goes up along the whole ridge reaching the tops of all these towers. 10 hours of fantastic 4° degree!!
The first ascent had done in 1889 by G. Zecchini, A. Dimai, O.R. and P. Neumann, along that which has then become the normal route. It goes up along the SE side of the mountain and it's very easy. You must start from Pradidali Hut m 2278 and walk to Passo di Ball m 2443. Here you follow the Via Ferrata " Nico Gusella " up to Forcella Stephen m 2705. Now you turn on the right following a little path that goes up along a very easy gravels slope and in a few minutes you arrive to the summit.

TIMES OF RANGE : Pradidali Hut m 2278 - Passo di Ball m 2443 = h 0.30
Passo di Ball - Summit = h 1.00

DROPS = Pradidali Hut - Passo di Ball = 165 m
Passo di Ball - Forcella Stephen = 262 m
Forcella Stephen - Summit = 86 m

Getting there.

To reach Pradidali Hut you have to go to Trento or Belluno by train or by car, and then go up to Fiera di Primiero. Here turn on the right following the road that leads to Passo Cereda, but when you arrive to a cross, turn on the left going up to Cant del Gal, where you find two wonderful little hotels. From here you follow the path n. 709 that in three hours leads you to Pradidali Hut.

Gear.

A gear for Via Ferrata and medium mountain is required by this climb, so rope, spring-clips and helmet.
