Cima La Croce

Overview

Cima la Croce is a panoramic pyramid situated near the south face of Monte Alben, in the Serina valley, orobian prealps of Italy.
The mountain is high only about 2000 m., but his position is in a very nice place and it’s a not impegnative hiking route or a mountaineering skying way in winter.
One of the possible route start from the little town of Cornalba where is possible find good conditions for parking.

Getting There

Motorway A4 Torino Venezia, until Bergamo gate. Then follow for Selvino, Serina valley until Cornalba. From Valle Seriana panoramic road starting from Oneta to Oltre il colle, until Cornalba.
The route start in the centre of the village.

Route

Follow the main street of the Cornalba village until, in you can find indications for the sentiero CAI n. 503 (see the cartina Kompass n. 104 foppolo Valle Seriana
The first half of the route, until the place called casere basse is in a tipical forest of the orobian prealps, with pine, larchs oaks and fagus after an hour of walking, the landscape change in a open valley with grass and in spring a large flowering of crocus.
Now you can take the sentiero cai n.502 direction Passo la forca monte Alben.
Walk a little until the place called casere basse and with a little more at the casere alte.
Now we can see the Alben on your right and the Cima la croce in front of you (Cima la Croce is in the North position of Monte Alben).
Here, in summer you can see cows and sheeps heating grass in complete freedom.
At the casere alte follow for baita Piazzoli, m 1635, Bivacco Conca dell'Alben m. 1730, very interessant bivuacs in grotta and for Passo la forca, m. 1848. You can find snow until spring.
Here follow the sentiero n. 503. Who, sale until the Passo della Forca, m. 1848 here you can find the Bivuacs Conca d’Alben, situated in a natural hole in the mountain.
Now on the right you can reach the mt. Alben Summit m 2019 or, on the left, after a little ripid but not difficult way between rocks and stones, on the summit of cima la croce.
Here you can find a cross and a 360° panorama over mount Alben, m.2019, conca dell’Alben, Alpe Arera, Grem, Serina Valley an the Padana valley.
Return by the same way or following the ridge on the left like you can see in the map.
