Overview

The Schinder is a free-standing mountain, south of the Tegernsee and part of the Bavarian Pre-Alps. It straddles both Germany and Austria as actually the Austro-German border follows its ridge.
Though the elevation is unspectacular, the ascent via the Schinderkar is steep and a requires a little scrambling which is rewarded by a nice panoramic view of the surrounding Risserkogel, Halserspitz, and Rotwand.

Getting There

From Rottach-Egern on the southern shore of the Tegernsee, one passes Enterrottach and uses a toll-road in the direction of Valepp. Just shortly before arriving in Valepp proper, there is a parking lot at the Brennerklamm, which serves as starting point.

Routes and Maps

Through the Schinderkar
Follow the forest track until its western end. There a signpost will point towards the Schinderkar and the path will be marked. After a stroll through the forest you will reach the cirque and follow it until the foot of the mountain. It will ascend steeply and at the end you will have to scramble with the help of some steel ropes through a hollow, aptly named the Fensterl (window) and onto the ridge. Along the ridge the path follows onto the summit in a few minutes.
Via Trausnitzalm
Follow the gently inclined marked path towards Trausnitzalm. There the path curves and follows in zig-zags the southern ridge onto the summit.
