Hook Mountain rises over 700 feet from the western shoreline of the Hudson River in Rockland County, NY. It is located about 3 miles north of downtown Nyack, NY and about 20 miles north of Central Park in New York City. It is a very prominent feature along the western shore of the river just a few miles north of the Tappan Zee Bridge and considered to be one of the more scenic locales along the Lower Hudson Valley riverfront.
From the summit, one can take in beautiful views of a large part of Rockland and Westchester Counties with clear-day views ranging from the Manhattan skyline to the south and Bear Mountain to the north.
The summit is especially popular with birdwatchers during the fall season...with numerous sightings of hawks, Bald Eagles, vultures, and others.
